Plan International  recruits a Business Development Associate – Maadi, Egypt

The Purpose :

The Business Development Associate is responsible for identifying funding opportunities in line with Plan Egypt’s program priorities, writing successful grants in coordination with program colleagues and strengthening our linkages with local donor missions and national offices.

The Business Development Associate is needed to support the achievement of country resource mobilisation targets and learning regarding the funding portfolio, while assisting the Business Development Manager and Head of Programmes to develop a strong professional image among Plan donors so that additional grant funding is acquired to grow and support Plan’s program.  This will be achieved through actively seeking and maximizing opportunities for additional funding from a variety of sources.

 

 

Responsibilities include :

  • Plan Egypt has a portfolio of suitable, medium and large grants and pipeline of future funding opportunities to maintain agreed future grant expenditure targets;
  • Develop resource mobilization plans to operationalize the resource mobilisation strategy of Plan Egypt;
  • Develop regular reports and analysis of the implementation plans, mapping between program priorities and donor opportunities, funding analysis, etc to be used by management for review and decision making;
  • Actively identify grant opportunities and develop grant proposals in line with agreed organizational procedures and in close coordination with Strategic Partnership and Advocacy Unit, Program Areas and other relevant departments and units within Plan Egypt and National offices;
  • Ensure that all categories of program costs are considered at the conceptualization and submission stage of grant preparation;
  • Support Programme Quality and Compliance unit throughout the handover process and start-up of grants approved by the donor;
  • Monitor, analyze and consolidate relevant grant information and disseminate where relevant within Plan Egypt.
  • Produce and regularly update a comprehensive mapping of all donor opportunities (by sector and geography) in Egypt;
  • Packaging grant proposals to suit the requirements of different donors, including working with the Communications team to develop separate marketing collateral aimed at different audiences (NOs, Institutional donors, Corporates etc.).

Plan Egypt has excellent working relationship with all NOs and in country partners and donors :

  • Support Country Program Management Team and Country Leadership Team to act as Plan Egypt representatives on grant matters, representing the interests of Plan Egypt to National Offices, donor organizations and other stakeholders;
  • Where needed, support Country Program Management Team and Country Leadership Team in its engagement with appropriate corporate donors to align their sustainable strategies with Plan Egypt to identify mutual areas of collaboration;
  • Support Country Program Management Team to develop, manage and maintain strategic partnerships with local actors, including bilateral, multilaterals, corporate donors and external networks;
  • Develop and maintain a strong and professional image of Plan Egypt among relevant donors;
  • Researching where potential opportunities for grants funding can be found;
  • Ensuring successful on-going donor relationship management and ‘ownership’ of relations with donor representatives locally;
  • Understanding which sources and types of funding are / are not appropriate to Plan Egypt’s program needs.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours  Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives :

Gained through education, training, & experience :

  • University Degree – preferable on social sciences;
  • Demonstrable knowledge as a result of study, training or practical experience on grants acquisition;
  • Knowledge of the various donors’ interests, priorities and requirements;
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated track record of professional writing, particularly project proposals;
  • Substantial experience of the NGO sector;
  • High level of computer proficiency;
  • Experience of working with children and communities and managing child-related program and projects would be an advantage;
  • Advanced negotiating, strategic relationship management, planning and monitoring, marketing, and people skills;

Gender Equality and Inclusion Knowledge :

  • Ability to distinguish and describe key gender equality and inclusion concepts (including equity, discrimination, exclusion, gender, social norms, root causes and transformation);
  • Understanding of how gender, age, and other socio-cultural factors (ethnicity, disability) intersect to effect access to rights, would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of key gender inequalities, gaps, barriers and opportunities in Egypt, would be an advantage.
    Influencing Knowledge – would be an advantage;
  • Familiar with influencing tactics, such as advocating governments for policy change, campaigning with CSOs for budgetary revisions, strategic engagement with power holders via media outlets, including digital, would be an advantage.
