About Sanad for Peacebuilding:

Sanad for Peacebuilding is a non-governmental and non-profit organization established in 2013 with the support of the US Institute of Peace (USIP). Sanad promotes peacebuilding, human rights, and democracy by providing technical expertise and support to civil society networks. Since its establishment, Sanad has provided professional management to two existing networks: The Network of Iraqi Facilitators (NIF) and the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities (AIM). Through its supported networks and with the support provided by USIP, Sanad has implemented several successful initiatives, including, among others:

● Preventing Revenge Acts Following the Camp Speicher Massacre: This initiative successfully prevented revenge acts of violence following the Camp Speicher Massacre in Tikrit, and ultimately led to the start of the return process for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in 2015.

● Establishing the Principles for Peaceful Coexistence in Nineveh: This initiative resulted in a written accord signed on March 31, 2016 by 42 tribal leaders, the National Reconciliation Committee (NRC) and the Governor of Nineveh which established a framework for peaceful coexistence between the Sunni, Shia, Yazidi, Christian, Shabak and Turkman communities post-liberation from ISIL.

● Strengthening Accountability and Transparency through Peace Technology Exchange Program (PTX): As a local implementer for the program in Iraq, Sanad successfully organized three PTXs in Basrah, Sulaimaniyah, and Baghdad from December to July 2015, whereby representatives of 95 CSOs and 78 Local Government officials were engaged in the program. Nineteen micro-projects were implemented in Sulaimaniyah and Basrah which supported engagement between local governments and civil society to improve accountability in addressing local issues that drive tensions and conflicts between the community and the local governments.

● Supporting the Institutional Development of the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities: During 2015, and with strategic directions provided by USIP, Sanad led the transitioning process of AIM to be inclusive to all minorities in Iraq and improved AIM’s bylaws and internal governance mechanisms, while continuing to support its institutional stability and growth under USIP’s funding.

● Supporting Social Cohesion in southwest Kirkuk: Supported by USIP, this initiative enabled key actors in southwest Kirkuk, including tribal and religious leaders, academics, and local and federal government representatives to establish peaceful coexistence principles after liberation as well as the mechanisms to implement these principles.

● Establishing Local Reconciliation Mechanism in Saladin: With the support of UNDP, Sanad has successfully supported the local government of Saladin to establish a Local Reconciliation Committee to highlight and address the drivers for tensions and conflicts at the local level.

● Mitigating for Media Incitement of Violence in Iraq: With the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Amman, Jordan, Sanad has successfully reached out to Iraqi media outlets, key journalists, and bloggers to address the inciting narrative as well as the existing regulatory framework that governs the conduct of media in Iraq. Sanad has also supported key stakeholders, including youth, civil society activities, and media by developing the capacity and providing the tools for validating digital contents.

● Establishing the Foundation for CVE in Anbar: With the support of UNDP, Sanad has been supporting the establishment of a mid-term two-year Countering Violent Extremism strategy in the Anbar governorate during 2016 and up to 2017, focusing on local governments in the Al-Ramadi and Fallujah districts. In addition, the project aims to develop the capacities of the project’s stakeholders on assessing and identifying the key drivers of violent extremism in the region, as well as establishing countering extremism mechanisms and an early warning system to monitor extremism indicators in Al-Anbar governorate.

Role and Responsibilities:

Sanad for Peacebuilding is seeking a Website Content volunteer to increase Sanad’s networking, outreach, and visibility by:

● Drafting content about Sanad’s recent activities and programs

● Editing and uploading content to Sanad’s website

● Managing current content

● Providing suggestions regarding the design and functionality of the website

● Developing a detailed content management strategy

● Posting on social media accounts

● Monitoring social media activity and responses

● Developing a social media strategy and monitoring system

Competencies:

● Strong command of written English – native or near-native fluency preferred.

● Basic understanding of conflict and peacebuilding.

● Understanding of current conflict issues in Iraq and Iraqi geography.

● Experience using CMS, particularly WordPress.

● Fluency in Arabic is preferred but not required.

Timeframe:

Applicants should be available for one year following their start date.

Duty Office:

The position will be remotely based with contact over Skype.
