Description

The World Bank, a leading multi-lateral institution in global economic development, is currently searching for a Driver to provide an effective and efficient day to day logistics transport function for the Office in Maseru, Lesotho. S/he will work as part of the office car pool and will drive office vehicles for transport of authorized personnel usually within Maseru, Lesotho but also in the surrounding countries. S/he will be responsible for the delivery and collection of mail. S/he will report directly to the Administration Unit for day to day assignment.

 

The Incumbent’s duties include but are not limited to :

  • Transport authorized personnel to/from airports, meetings, appointments, and other official duties ;
  • Transport authorized personnel on business travel to/from locations throughout Nigeria and Lesotho ;
  • Ensure the delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items ;
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities ;
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of vehicles, checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc ;
  • Perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs ;
  • Ensure that vehicles are kept clean at all times ;
  • Follow all steps required by the World Bank Road Safety Policy in case of travel and accident ;
  • Log all trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, lubrications, etc ;
  • Strict adherence to the World Bank’s Road Safety Policies and procedures as well as Nigeria National High Way Code ;
  • Any other duties as may be required for the mission of the World Bank.

Selection Criteria

  • Secondary school Education Diploma or Equivalent ;
  • At least 5 years driving experience, defensive driving skills being an advantage ;
  • Possess a valid driving License ;
  • Excellent knowledge of road safety ;
  • Good communication skills in English (written and spoken). Knowledge of one or two local languages and UN security procedures would be an advantage ;
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends ;
  • Committed team player with demonstrated inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural/disciplinary environment and able to produce high quality work under pressure.

 

Among other criteria, the successful candidate should be holding : 

  • Valid Driver’s License and capable of Defensive Driving; and a minimum of an intermediate school certificate ;
  • Thorough knowledge of driving rules and regulations and be conversant with the Road Security Code ;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional driving experience with a safe driving record ;
  • Proficient to effectively communicate in English (verbal and written) ;
  • Possess basic skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance. Vocational training in auto maintenance and repair would be a plus ;
  • Knowledge of UN system security procedures will be an added advantage ;
  • Ability to pass World Bank security clearance, medical test, UN DSS basic and advanced security clearance examinations ;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to team-oriented work ;
  • Willingness to drive throughout Lesotho and neighboring countries.​​
