About  WFP :

Organizational context :

In light of the influx of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar into Bangladesh, WFP has scaled up its operations in Cox’s Bazar to support those in need. There are more than 900,000 refugees living in Cox’s Bazar and WFP is assisting the majority of them through food assistance and nutrition programmes. Translations support is needed for communication and operational outputs in the response.

The position will be based in Cox’s Bazar.

Key accountabilities (not all-inclusive) :

Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, the Translator will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Provide spoken translations during interviews and donor visits;
  • Provided written translations in word, pdf, and publisher files;
  • Transcribe/translate video and audio interviews from the field;
  • Proof read and edit documents;
  • Incorporate changes to material as necessary;

Standard minimum qualifications :

Education: University degree in English, linguistics, communications, or related field.

Experience: This role is for a professional translator with minimum two to four years’ work experience, including experience working in a humanitarian context.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Rohingya/Chittagonian;
  • Advanced knowledge of Burmese is desired;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Proven ability to work with vulnerable populations and accurately translate their stories;
  • Ability to use design programmes such as canva, publisher, and photoshop;
  • Excellent coordination and organisational skills.

Contract duration: 6 months

Duty station: Cox Bazar

Nationality: Bangladeshi only

Monthly Net Salary: BDT. 77,466 net
