Virgin Australia’s Cargo business has experienced rapid growth in recent years, and we’re well placed for ongoing success.  With more than 3,400 flights per week operated for our cargo services, we play an important role in transporting cargo around Australia and the globe.  We are proud of our diverse service offering and we enjoy bringing a great service culture and strong competition to the air freight industry.  Our operations employ over 200 people directly and indirectly, and key to our growth strategy is to maintain a high performing leadership team; We are now searching for an experienced Manager to lead Cargo’s Safety Systems team with key accountability for implementing and the ongoing improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) of Virgin Australia Group within the Cargo Division.

 

About the role :

Safety is our first priority, so this role is a senior leader in the Cargo Team. If successful, your first priority will be to assess the robustness of our approach to safety in Cargo and identify strategic opportunities and partnerships that empower the business. To do this, we’re looking for someone who has a solid history creating and interpreting diverse and complex data sets to educate and solve problems that have a commercial and operational impact. Your insights will tell an accurate and succinct narrative about the current state of play to a wide audience, from the Executive team to key operational partners.

 

Other key accountabilities :

• Providing strategic direction for safety promotion, training and communication across Virgin Australia Cargo to align with all relevant company and regulatory requirements and industry best practice ;
• Management of the system of standards, controls and processes enabling the airline’s Safety Management System to support Virgin Australia’s Cargo Operations ;
• Coordination between Virgin Australia Cargo, internal and external regulatory and industry bodies on all matters in relation to the functions authorised by the AOC and applicable regulations ;
• Provision of advice and assurance as to the compliance status of the Cargo division regarding the scope of all aviation  ;
• Training ;
• Leadership.

 

Minimum requirements :

• Expert knowledge of all applicable CASA regulations and the operational / commercial impacts of their application ;
• Thorough and broad knowledge of airline operations policies and procedures and the ability to analyse them for both operational and regulatory efficiency ;
• Knowledge of operational management systems ;
• Aviation Degree or equivalent experience ;
• Excellent communication skills within all levels of the organisation ;
• Significant management experience within Airline operations in Safety Management, Flight Operations, Engineering or Airport Operations.
