As a Senior Legal Counsel you will have the opportunity to assist the Virgin Australia business on a range of matters, depending on your skill set.  Key areas could include  drafting and negotiating complex contracts, corporate projects, managing the legal aspects of major business projects, a range of competition related matters, litigation and disputes and  privacy and consumer law risks.  Reporting into the Head of Legal, this will be a diverse and busy role suited to a high performing and accomplished Legal Professional who works well in a dynamic and collaborative environment.  A collaborative and collegiate approach to working in a dynamic business environment is a must. This is a 12 month max term contract.

 

Key aspects of the role are flexible depending on the the individual’s skill set but could broadly include :

  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including in respect of general supply agreements, airline and industry partnerships, data usage, IT and digital products and services, IP licenses and marketing agency services ;
  • Providing legal advice to senior business stakeholders in relation to corporate or priority Virgin Australia Group projects, including strategic transactions and business transformation initiatives ;
  • Providing outcomes-focused and commercially astute legal advice on a wide range of matters, including in respect of complex, business wide projects, customer and commercial disputes, workplace health and safety matters, privacy compliance and marketing of the Virgin Australia Group’s products and services ;
  • Working closely with the Head of Ethics and Compliance to embed the Virgin Australia Group’s compliance framework ;
  • Effectively managing the provision of advice by external legal service providers where required ;
  • Staying informed of relevant legislative changes that impact on the provision of legal advice to the Virgin Australia Group ;
  • Assisting the Head of Legal to meet reporting obligations for the Executive Leadership Team and the Virgin Australia Group Boards, including by preparing updates on current matters or relevant legal issues as required.

 

To be a great fit for this role, you will bring :

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree, a current Legal Practicing Certificate and at least 8 years relevant experience within a law firm or an inhouse team with a focus on managing strategic commercial projects ;
  • A depth of experience gained in consumer facing businesses would be advantageous ;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of contract law principles ;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders as well as stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and the ability to provide solutions focussed advice ;
  • Ability to work independently and use your initiative as well as participating in a collaborative and engaged team.
