Background :

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Cameroon Country Office (CO) has been active in humanitarian action in the South West region since 2018 in response to a socio-political crisis, affecting the two Regions of the country, known as the Anglophone Regions. In addition to the existing interventions, the CO had started a one-year project in the South West and North West from January 2019 with the Government of Italy financial support. The project focus on the protection of women and girls affected by the conflict through the enhanced capacity of protection actors, the establishment of protection services and a wider educational program targeting communities in the South west and North west regions of Cameroon. The project had 3 main component: 1) Enhanced national actors’ capacity (police and gendarmerie) for the protection of women and girls affected by the crisis; 2) Women and girls affected by the conflict access protection services through gender desks at the police and gendarmerie in Buea and Bamenda; 3) Increased economic support to GBV survivors, public awareness and social mobilization against Sexual gender based violence.

Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator, the incumbent will provide technical and programmatic support to the implementation of relevant project activities in the area of women’s economic empowerment/livelihoods and social cohesion in the field.

Duties and responsibilities :

  1. Provide technical and programmatic support in the planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of the humanitarian program :
  • Conduct regular situation analysis on relevant areas to inform planning and implementation of activities ;
  • Support the planning of the operational work plan of UN Women at Buea/Bamenda and that of program/project partners ;
  • Support the monitoring and implementation of program/project activities in the field with emphasis on quality assurance and delivery of results ;
  • Prepare various reports including weekly reports, field mission reports, and analytical reports on relevant areas ;
  • Facilitate the collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders in the field ;
  • Support the coordination of various humanitarian actors to ensure coherence and effectiveness of activities by different partners ;
  • Support the coordination of the planning and implementation of activities of other areas (GBV, women, peace and security, health etc.) to strengthen synergies and coherence of UN Women’s interventions in the field ;
  • Support the final evaluation of the project in the field.
  1. Support in strengthening national capacity :
  • Support implementing partners in planning, conducting and monitoring their activities in relevant technical areas as well as cross-cutting aspects such as communication, visibility, and RBM (Results-Based Management) through continuous technical assistance in view of sustainability ;
  • Identify other key areas for support needed and assist capacity building activities for partners as and when needed ;
  1. Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing :
  • Develop manuals, training materials, guidance notes and other practical tools on relevant areas, building on existing resources and past experiences ;
  • Contribute to generating, documenting and utilizing knowledge (lessons learnt and good practices) in relevant areas in the humanitarian context ;
  • Provide necessary inputs for effective knowledge management and sharing within the project team and beyond ;

Perform other relevant tasks, requested by the direct supervisor :

The key results are :

  • Quality and timely implementation of program/project activities in the field in relevant areas ;
  • National partners’ ownership and capacity strengthened ;
  • Quality and timely inputs and information to the Field Coordinator in regards to program/project implementation and humanitarian coordination ;
  • Quality reports and knowledge product developed.

Required skills and experience :

Education :

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, gender studies, economic science, livelihoods or a related field.
Experience :
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in humanitarian projects, particularly in women’s economic ;
  • and/or social cohesion ;
  • Working experience in South West/ North West is highly desirable.

Language Requirements :

Fluency in English (Native)  and  French (professional)
