The US Embassy in Senegal hiring an Information Specialist.

 

Job description

As Chief Assistant to the Information Officer, plans, programs and implements of the Embassy’s media programs (print, television, social media, radio). In concert with the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and Information Officer (IO), plans media strategies for the Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission.  Monitors media on a daily basis, briefs the PAO and IO on key items that reflect on American, bilateral, and regional issues.  Briefs the ambassador directly on contents of local media and tone of coverage. Supervises three press assistants.

 

Job requirements 

Experience:  A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications as journalist, writer, public relations specialist, researcher, radio broadcaster, audio visual specialist, or a combination is required.

 

Job knowledge:   Must have a thorough knowledge of Senegal’s political, economic, social and educational sectors and an understanding of the background and roles of key players in each of these sectors. Should have general knowledge of public relations techniques.

 

Education Requirements: Two years of university is required.

 

Evaluations

  • Language:  English Level IV and French Level IV (reading/speaking/writing) is required. Level IV in Wolof or other commonly spoken local languages is also required. (This may be tested).
  • Skills and abilities:  Must be able to develop and maintain extensive high-level contacts in the media and government.  Must be able to adapt, translate, write, and produce informational materials in French and English. Must have strong leadership skills, the ability to lead and motivate a team with diverse backgrounds and skills. Must have excellent verbal, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.

 

Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
