NKHATABAY TOWN WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION PROJECT
PREPARATION OF SANITATION AND HYGIENE INVESTMENT PLAN FOR
NKHATABAY TOWN

1. The Government of the Republic of Malawi has applied for financing from the African Development Fund and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) toward the cost of the Nkhatabay Town Water Supply and Sanitation Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds for this financing to payments under the contract for Preparation of Sanitation and Hygiene Investment Plan for Nkhatabay
Town. Disbursement, in respect of this contract, will be subject to approval of the financing by the Fund.
2. The Consultant will among other activities
- Undertake a baseline study on water supply, sanitation (on and off-site), hygiene, solid waste, sludge, and drainage situation in the study area.
- Undertake institutional analysis to clarify roles and responsibilities of all concerned with the delivery of sanitation services, constraints in delivering services, and specify the consequences of non-performance by the ones in charge.
- Recommend and develop options for collection, treatment and disposal of onsite and sewered wastewater.
- Undertake environmental and social impact screening.
- Identify the overall sanitation requirements for Nkhatabay Town and prepare cost estimates for implementation of the options.
- Rank and select best alternative.
3. The overall effort of the consultant is estimated at 9.5 person-months and the period of the assignment is 8 months .
4. The Northern Region Water Board now invites eligible interested consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc).
5. Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Fund’s “Procurement Policy for Bank Group-Funded Operations, dated October 2015, which is available on the Fund’s website at http://www.afdb.org.
