Organizational Setting\:

UTF/AZE/011/AZE Establishment of a National Disease-free Seed Potato Production System in Azerbaijan.

Ms. Melek Cakmak, Head of Office   
 

Technical Focus

The project aims to establish a national disease-free seed potato production system in Azerbaijan in line with international standards. It will contribute to the strengthening of national capabilities in plant biotechnology and seed potato production through developing training manuals, conducting of training on tissue culture techniques, disease-free seed potato production and multiplication, disease/pest identification for a group of researchers, farmers, programme managers and technicians and a study tour/external training abroad.
 

Tasks and responsibilities\:

  • Organize the project activities and supervise the progress of the activities, covering all pilot regions
  • Monitor the effective engagement and participation of both women and men, and the sex-disaggregated reporting as established in the project document, and engage the FAO-Azerbaijan Partnership Programme Gender/Social Protection Expert when deemed necessary
  • Attend  annual workshops to contribute to development of the detailed project work-plan, and supervise the progress of the project
  • Visit field areas where disease-free seed potato production has been carried, identify the shortcomings and provide advice accordingly
  • Advise the construction of required infrastructure to establish disease-free seed potato production system
  • Join stakeholder consultation meetings on seed potato regulatory framework
  • After each mission, prepare a brief report summarizing findings, conclusions and recommendations
  • Evaluate the progress report of the project submitted by National Project Coordinator and prepare the draft terminal report
  • Finalize the seed potato certification legislation based on international  standards
  • Draft proposals on overall institutional organization, including establishment of an efficient inspection and certification system
  • Analyse the general strategic plans and sectoral development strategy for seed potato in Azerbaijan
  • Carry out any other activities relevant to this assignment

Candidates will be assessed against the following

Minimum Requirements 
  • Advanced University Degree in agriculture/agronomy or plant sciences
  • At least ten years of experience/knowledge on disease-free potato production and certification system
  • Working language\: English (knowledge of Turkish or Russian is an asset)
