Dalsan Fishing. Co is a fishing enterprise company that provides fisheries products (fresh and frozen seafood products) to both domestic and export markets in the region. Dalsan is one of the main fish exporting companies in Somalia, which is owned by Somali Investors. Dalsan as a fishing company was launched in the year 2000 and established in Sanaag region. The primary production of the company is fish and shellfish mainly fish as whole and filler. Dalsan exports seafood to Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and also supply to local retailers in Somalia. In the domestic markets the company’s main markets are Bosaaso, Qardho, Erigabo, Lascaanood and Burco. The company is selling to hotels, restaurants, traders and exporters.

The objective is to increase seafood production and sale, thus improving production, handling and hygiene of the seafood products is important for the sector to be beneficial and productive. With that in mind, Dalsan would like to hire an expert to develop marketing strategy by improving and professionalize previous customers and get new ones to supply fish and other marine supplies.

Similarly the expert is required to train the sales/marketing team.

 

The consultant :

  • Consultant is expected to train 300 vendors on fish drying and other value addition aspects ;
  • And to train 20 vendors on fish filleting techniques ;
  • The consultant should have adequate education level (university degree and/ or diploma).

 

Related to business :

  • The consultant should be able to provide evidence of having undertaken similar training and training martial development for at least 1 year in Somalia ;
  • The consultant should be able to speak Somali and preferable fluent in English ;
  • The should be able project location (Bosaaso Lasqoray).

 

Derivables :

  • Design and carry out a quick participatory needs assessment to gauge uptake of training material in the target market ;
  • Based on needs assessment, develop programmes that can respond to the particular needs and capacities of participants of the Somali fisheries sector ;
  • Prepare and write the training materials that can be used by trainers to deliver training to beneficiaries ;
  • Identify items of equipment that would enhance training delivery and practical activities. Pilot test the materials and training process ;
  • Make a comprehensive report of the training with clear recommendations for follow up and actions ;
  • Deliver all training tools, materials and references collected during assessment, Development and training delivery ;
  • Documents should be in Somali and English where necessary.
