About the role :
We are looking for a Engineering Safety Investigator to join our Safety Investigations team which supports the VAA and VAI Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) teams based in Brisbane. Reporting to the Virgin Australia (VA) Leader Safety Assurance, you will play a critical role in performing investigation of errors and escapes made within the CAMO or any of our maintenance providers (CASA Part 145 AMOs).
This role requires reviewing event notifications, determining risk, conducting investigations as well as following up on any corrective or preventative actions, arising from the investigations.
A day in the life of the Engineering Safety Investigator includes but is not limited to :
- Undertaking initial event Divisional Safety Reviews ;
- Perform Investigations of CAMO originated errors and escapes ;
- Perform investigation oversight of AMO investigations originating from errors and escapes ;
- Preparation of investigation reports ;
- Entering and processing findings, corrective and preventative actions, in the airline’s safety database (Intelex).
About you :
We are looking for a candidate with :
- A demonstrable track record in maintenance and engineering operations ;
- Ability to manage multiple investigations, whilst meeting investigation and reporting timelines ;
- Ability to be subjective, think critically and be very analytical, to identify root causes and deficiencies ;
- You must also have a good understanding on how Human Factors and organisational influences can lead to errors and escapes ;
- You must have a good ability to gather pertinent facts and evidence in an investigation and create a concise and succinct investigation reports ;
- You will be able to demonstrate a track record of working cohesively and proactively with stakeholders and team members to achieve agreed positive outcome in all situations.
You will have a comprehensive knowledge of :
- CASA regulations and standards applicable to the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CASR Part 42)
- CASA regulations and standards applicable to the Approved Maintenance Organisations (CASR Part 145)
- CASA regulations and standards applicable to the Aircraft Maintenance Licensing (CASR Part 66) and various NAA licencing systems (FAA, NZCAA, etc)
- CASA Regulations and standards applicable to our airlines Safety Management System (SMS)
- CASA Regulations and standards applicable to operational approvals (e.g. EDTO CAO82.0)
In liaising with various stakeholders, both internal and external, the ability to demonstrate high level communication skills and positively influence/coach others at all levels will be essential for your success. Your people interaction/interface and communication skills are essential to this role, as is your report writing capability.
