  1. The African Development Bank (“AfDB” or “the Bank”) is the premier pan-African development institution, promoting economic growth and social progress across the continent. There are 80 member states, including 54 in Africa (Regional Member Countries or RMC). The Bank’s development agenda is delivering financial and technical support for transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth. In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten Year Strategy (2013 – 2022) and ensure greater developmental impact, five major areas, all of which will accelerate the Bank’s delivery for Africa, have been identified for scaling up, namely; Light up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialise Africa, Integrate Africa and Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.
  2. The ICT Operations division(PITD.3) of the AfDB under the Industrial and TradeDevelopment Department, is responsible for the Bank Group’s Information and Communication technology activities including capacity building and knowledge work on the ICT sector to the benefits of other sectors of the Bank and mainly towards the regional member countries for ICT projects.

The Bank has secured financial resources from the Korea Africa Cooperation (KOAFEC) Trust Fund to conduct a study on the 04th Industrial Revolution and propose strategies to unlock the potential for some of the emerging technologies (Big Data Analytics; the Internet of Things; Blockchain; Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Robotics; 3D Printing; Autonomous Vehicles and Drones; Digital Cloud Platform; Augmented Reality, etc.) for Africa.
  2. The study aims at producing a high Quality comprehensive analysis for which an inception report has been delivered in January 2019. The interim report will be made available by the 6th May and the draft final report, two weeks later (24th May).
  1. The AfDB hereby invites individual consultants to express their interest in the position of Consultant (Graphic and Layout Designer).
  2. The main objective of the proposed assignment is to assist PITD.3 in designing the contents, branding, presentation and delivery of the “4th IR Potential for Africa” and other documents as required .
  3. Under the overall guidance of the IT Solutions Architect, the Consultant will be required to :
  • Creating, editing and improving the artwork, layout and design of reports and other communications materials for printing and electronic distribution
  • Conceptualize and execute creative graphic design and layout work for materials to be published .
  • Produce print ready materials of high quality for printing
  • Delivering creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, web-based and animated presentations;
  • Creating animations for illustrative purposes for use in various materials such as PowerPoint presentations and more advanced communication options (web videos graphic editing, graphic digitalization);

Essential skills and qualification :

  • A Bachelor degree in communications, art & design, marketing, or related field and at least 10 years of related work experience or a Master degree in communications, art & design, marketing, or related field and at least 5 years of related work experience
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of principles of graphic design, as well as the industry standard tools to produce high quality designed copy (details provided in next section)
  • Knowledge of the work of international organizations in general and AfDB in particular is a plus Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to respond very quickly to demands and being able to deliver high-quality products under very tight deadlines.
  • strong interpersonal skills such as being able to communicate effectively with the team and responding quickly to correspondence
  1. Interested Consultants shall provide information on their qualifications and experience demonstrating their ability to undertake this Assignment (documents, reference to similar services, experience in similar assignments, etc.).
  2. The assignment can be off-site with regular contact with the PITD.3. If deemed necessary, the Consultant may be asked to travel occasionally to the African Development Bank (AfDB) Headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
  3. The eligibility criteria, the establishment of a shortlist and the selection procedure shall be in conformity with the Bank’s Rules and Procedure for the Use of Corporate Consultants . Please, note that interest expressed by a consultant does not imply any obligation on the part of the Bank to include him/her in the shortlist.
  4. The Consultancy is for 60 working days carried out over a period of 06 months, starting from May 2019 to October 2019 with an expected high availability required between 01 May 2019 to 30 June 2019.
  5. Expressions of interest must be received by email or mail at the address below no later than Monday, 08th April 2019 at 5.00pm local time (GMT) and must specifically mention “3 – Consultant (Graphic and Layout Designer)” in the subject line or on the envelope.
