Position Summary:

Nestlé Research & Development Center, Abidjan is currently looking for an Agronomy Associate who will support Cocoa and Coffee field/lab trials design, establishment, management, and reporting after data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, mapping, establishing, managing, and maintaining lab & field agriculture research trials (cocoa, coffee, etc)
  • Collection, gathering, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting of trials results and preparation of progress reports.
  • Collect samples of soils, plants, plant parts and harvest to support the different projects.
  • Ensure contracts are in place with farmers and suppliers important for the delivery of key projects.
  • Deliver research trials and activities as per plan and on time.
  • Ensuring the sourcing of all necessary raw material and equipment important for the delivery of trials
  • Ensure all equipment under responsibility are in good working condition and well maintained.
  • Propose ideas for new projects/initiatives in line with R&D strategy.
  • Respectful collaboration with farmers and suppliers involved in the delivery of all projects.                                            

What will make you successful?  

  • 1 to 3 years of experience as a field agronomist with experience in cocoa farming and research
  • Experience in greenhouse gas collection & measurement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cocoa agronomy and physiology.
  • Specialized in field trials establishment and management.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in rural areas and with cocoa farmers.
  • Good understanding of greenhouse gas measurement protocol in tropical crops
  • Good knowledge of GPS and GIS use in agriculture mapping
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques used in tissue culture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of coffee production is a plus.
  • Ability to instruct other employees transversally to assist in the accomplishment of specific tasks.
  • Project management within multidisciplinary teams
