About the Chad programme:

Following nearly 30 years of conflict, large areas of Chad remain affected by mines and the explosive remnants of war. MAG has worked in Chad from 2006 to 2013, aiming to improve the living conditions of communities affected by these items, so they can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. We returned to Chad in late 2014 and re-opened our programme, working to improve the management of arms and ammunition alongside our Humanitarian Mine Action work.

Subject to a successful bid, the programme is planning to begin a new project, which is initially expected to last for 1 year, beginning in either October 2018 or January 2019. This project will focus on Technical Surveys, Spot Task clearance, demining and weapons cutting.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work, and actively manage and lead our teams of national staff to safely implement our life saving mine clearance and EOD projects.  They must be willing to lead from the front, responsible for the day-to-day management of our technical teams and being involved in all aspects of MAG’s lifesaving work, including administration, team cashbooks, procurement of equipment, reporting and planning. Roles can often be remote, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding.  This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis.

About you:

You must be qualified and experienced in demining / EOD operations, holding a recognised EOD 3 / MINEX 3 qualification with previous experience working for a similar organisation, either in the military, humanitarian or commercial sector. Previous experience in Community Liaison, Risk Education and Non-technical Surveys would also be desirable. You must be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world, as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities which need it most. We are currently seeking applications from Fluent French-speakers, with English language skills also being beneficial.

The teams in Chad are often based in remote areas, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, you will need to be able to live and work in extremely challenging environments, where your skills and MAG’s work is needed most.
