About MAG:
MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.
About the Chad programme:
Following nearly 30 years of conflict, large areas of Chad remain affected by mines and the explosive remnants of war. MAG has worked in Chad from 2006 to 2013, aiming to improve the living conditions of communities affected by these items, so they can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. We returned to Chad in late 2014 and re-opened our programme, working to improve the management of arms and ammunition alongside our Humanitarian Mine Action work.
Subject to a successful bid, the programme is planning to begin a new 4 year project and are working to expand the in-country team to support the work in both the Lake and Tibesti Region.
About the role:
We are seeking a Technical Field Manager (TFM) in Chad to lead a range of activities including mine clearance, EOD projects. MAG’s TFMs are the core of our work and actively manage and lead our teams of national staff to safely implement our life saving technical work. You must be willing to lead from the front, responsible for the day-to-day management of our technical teams and being involved in all aspects of MAG’s lifesaving work, including administration, team cashbooks, procurement of equipment, reporting and planning. The teams in Chad are often based in remote areas, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis.
About you:
You must be qualified and experienced in demining / EOD operations (minimum EOD 3 qualified), with previous experience working for a similar organisation, either in the humanitarian or commercial sector. It would be beneficial to have some previous experience and knowledge of working with IEDs. You must be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world, as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities which need it most.
