Nature of the Position :
The Electrician will report to the Administration and Finance Officer. S/he will receive technical guidance from the Associate ICT Officer or the ICT Officer at the Country Office when necessary and will work in close coordination with the ICT-Energy unit staff to ensure stability of electricity connection in the office and to provide required assistance to all staff, implementing and operational partners and other Stakeholders connected to the Office Generators and who are using official UNHCR Generators. The incumbent should have a good background in generator electrical mechanics, Electricity, Electrical Studies, Electronics or Electronics-Mechanics to enable her/him to ensure the maintenance and repair of generators and other electrical appliances. In this sense, a sound working experience with UN or UNHCR in electrical installation and maintenance is desirable. Completion of training or apprenticeship in plumbing, air-conditioning and refrigeration installations is added advantage, as the candidate will be responsible for all these services and the related maintenance and repairs within the office. Moreover, the candidate should be client service oriented in daily contacts with staff and external stakeholders and demonstrate a good inter-personal skill. Previous involvement in emergency situations including the capacity to undertake activities under pressure and in a stressful working environment is an added advantage.
French is mandatory, and knowledge of English and other local languages is desirable.
Living and Working Conditions :
In terms of working and living conditions, Moissala is a small town that has only very basic infrastructure with very limited leisure and recreational facilities. The security situation in Moissala remains stable compared to the rest of the Country as far as the general threats are considered.
However, attention should be paid to small crimes but without a significant impact on UN staff. Malaria is prevalent and all staff need to be vigilant by taking the relevant measures.
Moissala is an E non-family duty station with very limited health facilities available locally. Any serious medical condition requires going directly to N¿djamena by air. There is currently one regular weekly UNHAS flight to and from Ndjamena. The climate is classified as tropical wet and dry. The office has established a guest house for both the international and private accommodation is available for all staff. Limited foodstuffs and basic domestic items can be found in Moissala there is a possibility for staff to get whatever other items are needed from Sarh. The R&R cycle is every 8 weeks for international staff and there is a Special Compressed working schedule which is granted to national staff as well to promote their welfare. There is no public electricity and running water is scarce, but UNHCR provide office generator electricity against monthly payment fees. Banking facilities are available at Sarh and Doba where one can open current account in XAF at Ecobank
