Nature of the Position :
The Telecom Operator will be a staff member of the administration unit and will report directly to the Head of Office. S/he will additionally receive technical orientations and support from the Associate ICT Officer at the Sub Office and will work closely with administration colleagues to provide technical support to all staff. The incumbent should have qualification in Regulation requirements radio license and thorough knowledge in practice of secretarial functions. Furthermore, good functional skills in UNHCR Administrative and Secretarial procedures, as well as Cross-cultural communication are added advantages. Previous involvement with emergency situations including the capacity to undertake activities under pressure and in a stressful working environment is desirable. Also, the candidate should be client service oriented in daily contacts with staff and demonstrate a good inter-personal skill. French is required, and knowledge of English and other local languages are desirable.
Living and Working Conditions :
Iriba, Amdjarass and Guereda are characterised by very basic infrastructure as well as leisure and recreational facilities. Also, very limited health facilities are available locally. Fresh fruits and vegetables can hardly be found in the local market. The office has established guest houses for the international colleagues, but private accommodation is possible as well though very few meet the established MORSS requirements. The Sub-Office is in the desert with harsh weather conditions, lack of water, and unavailability of basic infrastructure facilities such as roads which impact on timely delivery of quality humanitarian services to the beneficiaries. The climate is hot, dry and dusty.
There are no banking facilities in Iriba. The nearest bank facility is at Abeche located at 270 km from Iriba where we happen to have most of the banks operating in Chad (BCC, ECOBANK etc) UN Humanitarian Aviation Services provide regular flights to and from Iriba to other cities in Chad mainly Abéché and N’Djamena.
