Nature of the Position :

The Senior Community-Based Protection Assistant will report to the Head of Office and received technical guidance and support from the Senior Protection Officer at the SO Office. S/he will work directly with communities of concern to identify the risks they face and to leverage their capacities to protect themselves, their families, and communities, in coordination with UNHCR Staff, NGO partners, Government and other stakeholders. The incumbent will support the application of community-based protection standards, operational procedures, and practices in community-based protection delivery at the field level. Hands-on experiences with UNHCR learning programmes (PLP) and with MSRP will be an added advantage. Agood skill in IT-MS Office Applications, IT-Computer Literacy, IT-Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), PR-Community-based Protection-Principles and methodologies, CL-Multi-stakeholder Communications with Partners, Government & Community as well as UN/UNHCR Administrative Rules, Regulations and Procedures is desirable. Previous involvement with emergency situations including the capacity to undertake activities under pressure and in a stressful working environment is an added advantage.

 

Living and Working Conditions :

In terms of working and living conditions, Moissala is a small town that has only very basic infrastructure with very limited leisure and recreational facilities. The security situation in Moissala remains stable compared to the rest of the Country as far as the general threats are considered. However, attention should be paid to small crimes but without a significant impact on UN staff. Malaria is prevalent and all staff need to be vigilant by taking the relevant measures. Moissala is an E non-family duty station with very limited health facilities available locally.

Any serious medical condition requires going directly to N¿djamena by air. There is currently one regular weekly UNHAS flight toand from Ndjamena. The climate is classified as tropical wet and dry.

The office has established a guest house for both the international and private accommodation is available for all staff. Limited foodstuffs and basic domestic items can be found in Moissala there is a possibility for staff to get whatever other items are needed from Sarh. The R&R cycle is every 8 weeks for international staff and there is a Special Compressed working schedule which is granted to national staff as well to promote their welfare.

There is no public electricity and running water is scarce, but UNHCR provide office generator electricity against monthly payment fees. Banking facilities are available at Sarh and Doba where one can open current account in XAF at Ecobank.
