Nature of the Position :
The Senior Data Management Assistant will be supervised by the Head of Office and will receive technical guidance and support from the Professional Data Management staff at the Sub Office. The incumbent will play a liaison role with the national and local authorities for gathering and exchange of data and will maintain regular contacts mainly with the colleagues in the same duty station to exchange information and to discuss the work plans. The candidate should have qualifications in Electronic Data Processing and Information Technology. Moreover, completion of UNHCR learning programmes or specific training relevant to functions of the position is an added advantage. Possession functional skills in IT-Computer Literacy, DM-Data Management, DM-Data collection methodologies, DM-Database Management is desirable. Working experiences in emergency situations including the capacity to undertake activities under pressure and in a stressful working environment is an added advantage. French in required, and knowledge of English and local languages is an added advantage.
Living and Working Conditions :
In terms of working and living conditions, Goz Beida is a small town that has only very basic infrastructure with very limited leisure and recreational facilities. There are no banking facilities in Goz Beida. The nearest bank facility is in Abéché where ATMs are also operational. Malaria is prevalent and all staff need to be vigilant by taking the relevant measures. Goz Beida is an E non-family location. There are also very limited health facilities available locally. Finding good accommodations in Goz Beida remains a challenge. Therefore, UNHCR managed guest houses provide and facilitate accommodation to UNHCR staff. All communications within the office and with external partners such as Government and humanitarian agencies are conducted in French. Fluent French (both written and spoken) is essential for this position. However, working knowledge of English, especially written, is also required as reports, internal as well as external, are requested in English. While security in Goz Beida is, at present, stable, due to criminality staff are discouraged from walking in the streets, staying out late at night and visiting public places alone. Physical integrity of UNHCR staff. UNHCR staff are always reminded the need to strictly respect all norms of security.
