Eligibility criteria  :

Minimum age : 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

 

Description of task :

  • Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Protection Officer (Community Based) in Yaoundé, the UNV will undertake the following tasks ;
  • Through relationships with persons of concern to UNHCR and network of partners stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment and provide advice to the protection team ;
  • Understand the perspectives, capacities, needs and resources of persons of concern to UNHCR and advise the protection team accordingly, highlighting the specific protection needs of women and men, children, youth and older persons, persons with disabilities, marginalized groups, etc. ;
  • Support implementing and operational partners as well as displaced and local communities to develop community-owned activities and develop their capacity to address, where applicable, the social, educational, psycho-social, cultural, health, organisational and livelihood concerns as well as child protection and prevention and response to SGBV ;
  • Assist in working with host communities to involve national civil society groups in improving the protection of persons of concern ;
  • Assist in the analysis that identifies the capacities of communities of concern and risks they face ;
  • Support participatory assessments and ongoing consultations with persons of concern to UNHCR ;
  • Support communities in establishing representation and coordination structures ;
  • Ensure community understanding of UNHCR’s commitment to deliver on accountability and quality assurance in its response and support the development of community-based complaint mechanisms (CBCM) ;
  • Collect data for monitoring of programmes and budgets from an AGD perspective ;
  • Support individual case management relating to children at risk by conducting BIA and BID, by developing and implementing related action plans with concerned children, their familiy and other relevant stakeholders as well as by ensuring monitoring and follow-up as appropriate.

 

Profil :

Qualifications/Requirements : Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education – Additional Comments :

The candidate must have :

  • A Bachelor or equivalent in the field of social sciences, international development/relations or any related field ;
  • Training in international development, peace building, community support,cultural studies, human rights, social work, social science, political science, anthropology, international public law or other clearly related disciplines ;
  • Computer skills (MS Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint) ;
  • Required experience: 36 Months.

Experience remark :

  • A professional experience of at least 3 years in community development, protection or related field ;
  • Good knowledge of national laws governing associations in Cameroon ;
  • Familiarity with United Nations procedures is an added advantage.

Language skills :

  • French(Mandatory), Level – Fluent ;
  • English(Mandatory), Level – Working Knowledge ;
  • Area of expertise : Community participation and development, Protection of refugees, asylum seekers and IDPs, Other emergency management experience ;
  • Driving license : No.
