BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

To support all Operational Information Management and Performance Reporting (OIM & PR) activities of WFP Country Office in Algeria and contribute to the establishment and presentation of standard and consistent operating context of WFP operations and associated results that facilitate informed and timely decision-making at all levels throughout the organisation.
Job holders at this level demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support staff in assigned area to ensure that standard OIM & Reporting procedures and templates are followed to drive the quality, consistency and standardisation of information management and performance reporting across WFP Algeria CO.
  2. Collate relevant information and data from media and local internal and external sources to facilitate and maximize the exchange of information and data flow between functional area networks in WFP, to provide operational awareness and understanding of events that may have humanitarian and/or operational impact.
  3. Support the collation and dissemination of political and humanitarian analysis pertaining to WFP current or future responses and donor policies, trends and preferences to ensure country specific input to WFP’s operational reporting.
  4. Support the collation, analysis, and communication of the ‘Essential Elements of Information’, pertaining to the operational environment and available human, financial and physical assets in order to facilitate access to timely and accurate information used at country, regional and corporate level.
  5. Support the preparation of Annual Country Reports (ACRs) for the Annual Reporting Exercise in collaboration with the country office programme, monitoring & evaluation, logistics and resource management functions by coordinating to ensure coherence and quality of performance information.
  6. Collaborate with counterparts internally to ensure consistency in humanitarian information and to complement WFP analysis and information.
  7. Support to collect accurate qualitative and quantitative data and other information, establishing, elaborating on, and maintaining systems that allow for easy retrieval of information for reporting.
  8. Prepare infographics and communication and visibility products/fact sheets as required. Knowledge of design software is an advantage.
  9. Prepare accurate and timely reports on programmes and activities that enable informed decision-making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders, e.g. donors’ reports.
  10. Provide inputs into partnerships information requests and platforms, e.g. Salesforce, inputs for proposals.
  11. Participate to the UNSDCF working groups in alignment with WFP’s mandate and interest. Take part in humanitarian information management working groups, knowledge networks and communities of practice to disseminate WFP operational achievements and maximize visibility of WFP emergency response impact in UN joint operational products.
  12. Facilitate and organize regular documentation of all the CO information products in an accessible and structured knowledge management repository to preserve the institutional memory of the emergency response.
  13. Provide assistance for partnership engagement and communication activities for the WFP Algeria CO.
  14. Respond to specialised queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Completion of secondary school education, preferably supplemented by a university degree in Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management, Journalism, Communication, Business Management, Social Sciences or another relevant field. A post-secondary certificate, training or courses in the related functional area is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Six years of progressively responsible work experience in the relative business stream with experience in information management, reporting, and communication.
  • Additional background and interest in international humanitarian work would be an asset.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • General knowledge of information management best practices, techniques, and processes with some understanding of the basic theoretical background.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly assimilate, UN/WFP specific processes and systems.
  • Translation experience would be a plus.

Language:

Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is required, as well as in Arabic and French.
