The Communications and Social Media Assistant will contribute to the achievements of GGGI Senegal communications goals and targets and perform operational and administrative tasks to ensure smooth implementation and delivery of all communications activities with a strong focus on digital communications, media engagement, outreach product development, event management.

The Communications and social media Senior Assistant will  develop, implements, coordinate, and participate in a wide variety of website, social media and marketing projects and activities pursued by the Country Program, contributing to the overall effective achievement of corporate communications objectives.

The Communications Assistant will report to the Country Representative of GGGI Senegal.

 

INTRODUCTION

Based in Seoul, The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an intergovernmental organization founded to support and promote a model of economic growth known as “green growth”, which targets key aspects of economic performance such a poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and private sector to help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to climate change. GGGI supports stakeholders through complementary and integrated workstreams that deliver comprehensive products designed to assist in developing, financing, and mainstreaming green growth in national economic development plans.

GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries’ development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policymakers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.

 

CONTEXT

Senegal has become member of Global Green Growth Institute since November 2014. Confirming the needs to set its development trajectory toward an inclusive and sustainable green growth. To support the implementation of GGGI operations in Senegal, a five-year Cooperation Framework (CF) document was jointly endorsed in 2016 by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Resident Representative. It covers three strategic representations: (i) Sustainable urban development; (ii) Sustainable development of territories; and (iii) Governance of Green Growth.

The cooperation between GGGI and Senegal will provide solutions to energy, water and sanitation, transport, waste management, land use and climate sustainability, and waste management, as well as land use and climate sustainability issues, and on the other hand to support the institutionalization of green governance and the development of green financial mechanisms financial mechanisms.

 

PURPOSE

  • Contribute to improving social media content across all company’s social media channels by providing compelling material for the Country Program target audience.
  • Manage GGGI Senegal’s social media platforms and communities by creating and posting content.
  • Contribute to improving internal and external communications by helping the CR and team to develop and implement an effective communications strategy
  • Lead the management of public relations and media related to the Project (including drafting speaking notes, presentations & speeches for the project representatives).
  • Support content development for a monthly newsletter highlighting interesting resources and sharing messages from the consultation process.
  • Support the establishment & management of a shared contact database and partner relationship management system including media related contacts.
  • Support overall communications of all Project events.
  • Support the development of a marketing and communication pack including information blurbs, key messages, photos, logos, existing media coverage that can be used by all partners.

ENGAGEMENT

In-country engagement

  • Advise Country Team and Representatives with evidence and data drive inputs and analyses on program activity development, implementation and assessment.
  • Collaborate with Africa team and other country teams, units and divisions of GGGI on agreed joint activities to ensure integrated delivery as “One GGGI”

External engagement

  • Promote the Senegal program and GGGI’s global efforts with the donor community, private sector, civil society organizations and other stakeholders.

Internal engagement

  • Collaborate with other country teams, units and divisions of GGGI (especially with the Communication Division) on identified joint activity opportunities to ensure knowledge exchange and integrated delivery as “One GGGI”;
  • Advise GGGI country team on opportunities for engagement in the communication sector, demonstrating effective communication, media coverage, and social media knowledge management on all GGGI Senegal programs.

 

DELIVERY

  • Provide some editorial support as required including but not limited to editing and proofreading digital content and outreach products to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Monitor and evaluate social media campaigns to recommend improvement
  • Identify gaps in the different social media platforms and communications and share ideas /recommendations to the Country Representative.
  • Keep track of social media trends and behaviors to ensure engaging and valuable content.
  • Schedule and arrange meetings, and other collaborative sessions as required.
  • Publish a monthly newsletter.
  • Support the filing and organization of all communications files and products on GGGI internal online file-sharing platform.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably communications, marketing, business administration, or a related discipline; graduate degree is an asset;
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience preferably in one or more of the following fields: communications and outreach; public policy and administration; climate change; waste management.;
  • Experience working with an international organization, government, donor, multilateral or NGOs
  • Expertise in using social media to promote an organization or event and communicating professionally on social media (including Facebook, twitter, etc);
  • Experience in promoting workshops, events and fairs;
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: public service campaign; conventional and social media strategy; communications content development; evidence and data-based communications; design and content development; strategy development;
  • Experience developing newsletters, press release would be an advantage;
  • Acquaintance of global issues and initiatives in the area of sustainable energy, climate change, green jobs and green development;
  • Highly proficient in written and spoken French and English.

FUNCTIONAL

  • Demonstrate expertise in communication, media coverage, social media management and/or press release/newsletter;
  • Familiarity with the national flagship programs and policies, the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), in Senegal in advancing green growth;
  • Self-motivated, creative problem-solving abilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and be a strong team worker with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in producing communication materials;
  • Excellent multi-cultural literacy and interest in being a part of an international team working in an evolving and entrepreneurial environment;
  • Knowledge of project finance and climate finance;

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Communications and Social Media Senior Assistant is an X5 grade level in GGGI salary scale. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate’s experience, academic background and internal equity.
