The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan.

As Humanitarian Response Coordinator you will supervise the roll out of humanitarian aid activities, with the Head of Programmes, Project Advisors, the project managers and the Area Managers to increase the efficiency, accuracy, and quality of implementation. You will coordinate the humanitarian programs, contribute to the design and implementation of Welthungerhilfe’s (WHH) projects in Afghanistan.

Your responsibilities

  • Oversee the programme cycle management stages for humanitarian activities
  • Liaise with assigned peer organizations, clusters, and UN agencies to ensure proper information sharing, coordination, and participation in surveys / data collection
  • Monitor developments of the context and advise the Head of Programs and Area Managers in adjusting projects and proposals
  • Develop SOPs and ensure compliance to best practice methods such as Cash transfer as well as ensure implementation of WHH policies and their adaption to in-country conditions
  • Finalize, ensure and oversee the implementation and regular review of WHH Afghanistan’s Emergency Preparedness Response Plan (EPReP) and build capacity within the programme team
  • Provide substantial contributions in supporting the Head of Programs, Area Managers and the grants unit in identifying and securing additional grants from humanitarian donors in food or cash distributions
  • Verification and assessment of project applications and ideas on relevance, completeness, inclusion of relevant studies, data, use of appropriate approaches and on coherence with Government and donor strategies
  • Preparation of internal project documents for donor and headquarter purposes
  • Timely and close coordination with the MEAL Team for appropriate monitoring and evaluation on all levels
  • Ensure the necessary flow of information and transparency of projects results vis-à-vis the general public in the assigned provinces in close coordination with the Head of Programs.
  • Coordinate with local and international partner NGOs in all project matters and liaise with other humanitarian stakeholders

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in Agriculture, Agro Economics or Natural Resources Management, International Development or Social Sciences or accepted equivalent professional experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in the areas of humanitarian support / relief operations, NRM, Sustainable livelihoods in a conflict-ridden country
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience in cash and voucher assistance (CVA)
  • Proven record of experience in capacity building, inter agency/department coordination, policy advocacy
  • Experience working in Afghanistan and operating in complex international environments, with multi-cultural and multi-ethnic settings is highly preferred
  • High frustration tolerance/resilience and strong capability of working in a fragile context and fast-paced environment on highly dynamic topics
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good team player, a good sense of humor and experience in mentoring staff
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries as well as willingness to travel in the regions (~30% of the time)
  • Excellent spoken and written English. German / Pashtun / Dari language skills would be an asset
