Job description

GIZ is currently implementing a program to preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable forest management in the Maniema Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This program is co-financed by CAFI (Central African Forest Initiative) and encourages in cooperation with local actors, the sustainable use of natural resources. The target group is the local population, and in particular marginalized groups. An important area of the program is the development of green value chains (agriculture, forestry, wood energy) and GIZ is looking for an advisor to support the program in this specific area.

 

Your tasks

  • Advising governmental partners in Congo on the development of green value chains in agriculture, forestry, and wood energy
  • Ensuring the development of capacities of local partners related to green value chains
  • Cooperating with local structures, such as local NGOs, to implement activities related to green value chains
  • Supporting the coordination, and strategic development of the program in the Maniema Province
  • Ensuring an impact-oriented reporting for the donors.

 

Your profile

  • University degree in the field of agricultural sciences, forestry, rural development (or equivalent degree)
  • Several years of professional experience working in or for projects/programs in the area of international development cooperation
  • Proven experience in advising partner institutions (government as well as civil society) and building their capacities
  • Good work experience on developing/promoting agricultural or forestry value chains
  • Professional experience gained in developing or emerging countries is an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good intercultural communication skills, good negotiation skills
  • Business fluent in French and good German language skills; knowledge of English is an advantage.

The security situation is critically tense. It requires continuous monitoring and special security risk mitigation measures for GIZ staff. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times.
