Description
International Water Management Institute (IWMI) a CGIAR Research Center seeks applications from suitably qualified candidates to undertake a short-term assignment at IWMI’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) office.
Background
IWMI believes that effective and sustainable investment in the crucial value chains (such as: energy and agriculture) can play a promising role in transforming water and food systems towards more resilience in the global south. In the MENA region, IWMI is working with diverse partners operating in such sectors to showcase the added value of this investment paradigm in helping regional governments and communities towards sustainable development.
Objective of the Assignment
In this assignment, the consultant will work with IWMI experts in duties related to investment analysis and business acceleration within critical sectors for the global south.
Scope of work
- Analyze investment opportunities in Agriculture, Fishing & aquaculture, renewable energy
- Scout potential business acceleration & investment opportunities
- Assess the regulatory and legislative ecosystem
- Review private sector development policy
- Develop tools/methodologies to assess/evaluate business performance
- Identify scaling up opportunities of successful business acceleration practices
Duration: Thirty (30) days between November 2022 and January 2023

Requirements
Minimum Educational Qualifications and Experience Required
- MBA, or MSc in business management/acceleration, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Business Planning, or a related subject
- Previous experience in assessing/improving business ecosystems for SMEs in Egypt and/or in the MENA region
- Solid technical ability to execute analysis. Great Excel skills at a minimum – experience with SQL and other tools (e.g. various BI Tools, Python, R) is considered beneficial
Soft Skills and Abilities Required
- Strategic thinker and storyteller, able to identify trends and opportunities through analysis and convey actionable plans in a digestible and clear manner
- Good command of spoken and written English.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Possess stakeholder engagement skills and experience with interviewing, planning and scheduling.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
