II. Organizational Context and Scope
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Sr. Engineer of the project and under the overall supervision of the Project Manager and the Chief of Mission of IOM, the engineering assistants will be providing support to the implementation of the project in terms of implementing community-based socio-economic infrastructure rehabilitation projects. In particular the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Support the logistics unit in identifying adequate contractors for the work to be undertaken;
- Support the establishment of clear work plans for infrastructure rehabilitation projects;
- Communicate reaslistic work- and timeplans for the infrastructure rehabilitation projects;
- Support the logistics unit in reviewing proposals and budgets for upcoming projects;
- Liaise with contractors on the modalities of project implementation, particularly regarding utilization of IOM cash for work beneficiaries as part of daily labor;
- Support the logistics unit and contractors in sourcing locally available materials, labor and equipment as much as possible;
- Support and review the work undertaken by the cash for work teams in close liaison with the cash for work team supervisors;
- Provide advice and practical guidance for drainage and gutter cleaning, small-scale infrastructure rehabilitation, also where necessary through training of beneficiaries;
- Foster an atmosphere of collegial learning within the beneficiary teams;
- Implement and design small-scale infrastructure rehabilitation projects, which can be undertaken by the beneficiaries themselves;
- Contribute to the identification of projects in coordination with the Sr. Project Assistant;
- Support communities in prioritizing community projects in line with available budget, materials and timeframes;
- Maintain clear and concise records of all work undertaken and ensure timely reporting of pertinent observations, recommendations and lessons learnt to the Sr. Project Assistant and the Project Manager;
- Foster an atmosphere of solidarity and unity within the beneficiaries and actively contribute to the establishment of a respectful working atmosphere;
- Keep abreast of security developments in the area of project implementation in coordination with the mission’s SSU,
- Adhere to the principals of Do no Harm throughout the project implementation process,
- Display pro-active attitude in ensuring the reaching of weekly performance goals;

V. Education and Experience
Desirable Qualifications:
- Completed university degree in Engineering, Construction, Architecture, or relevant working experience to this effect
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in estates listed above.
- Previous experience with UN and International Agencies, or NGOs an advantage.
Strong knowledge of computer applications, especially MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Access.
