Job Description :

Under the supervision of the WPE Coordinator, the Child Protection specialist will be responsible for the vision, strategy, design, monitoring, and quality delivery of the Child Protection program under the NETIP Project. The Child Protection specialist will be based in Isiolo with frequent visits to the field sites. The specialist will be the focal point for all child protection related meetings, workshops, and working groups. The Child Protection specialist will be supported by the Technical Advisor based at IRC HQ.

Responsibilities :

Technical Monitoring and Program Quality :

  • Provide technical supervision of, and technical support and guidance to NETIP child protection program initiatives ;
  • Ensure that all child protection activities are consistent with established international and national best practices, in close collaboration with the Child Protection TA ;
  • Monitor evolving needs in the target communities and adjust the programmatic priorities as necessary ;
  • Ensure regular follow-up on monitoring data relevant to child protection program ;
  • Ensure regular performance monitoring of staff and/or partners to achieve the project’s objectives ;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 Program Development :

  • Coordinate and initiate project proposals and develop proposals for Child Protection Program under the supervision of the WPE Coordinator and in consultation and collaboration with field based staff and HQ TAs ;
  • Design and lead technical assessments to determine needs for child protection program development ;
  • Participate in donor meetings to share lessons learned in programming, needs assessments, and determine potential for new funding sources to improve child wellbeing and safety.

 Coordination, Representation and Advocacy :

  • In coordination with the supervisor, represent the IRC in Child protection forums /meetings ;
  • Together with CD, DDP and relevant coordination mechanisms, identify opportunities for advocacy on issues related to child protection.

 Staff development :

  • Develop and implement staff capacity building plan to ensure quality child protection programming ;
  • Ensure the child protection teams are following IRC HR policies, including the Child Safeguarding policy and code of conduct.

 

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor level qualification in Social Sciences, Law, Psychology or related subject ;
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience in leading/managing Child Protection projects in humanitarian contexts ;
  • Strong capacity building skills and proven ability to train on topics such as social and emotional learning, case management, parenting, etc ;
  • Strong leadership, management, project planning, monitoring and evaluation, analytical interpersonal and communication skills ;
  • Strong budget management and reporting, skills; and an ability to oversee multiple awards from a  variety of donors ;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment and effective in representation ;
  • Able to respond rapidly to changing environments and work under pressure ;
  • Fluency in English required.
