International Medical Corps :

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

 

Background :

International Medical Corps is currently implementing approximately 10 programs across nine sites in South Sudan. Through nearly 40 health facilities in urban and rural areas, International Medical Corps provides basic health care and integrated service provision, from preventative care to emergency surgery. To address South Sudan’s acute health worker shortage, and foster self-reliance, International Medical Corps trains health professionals and community volunteers. Also, IMC is implementing nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and GBV and public health interventions in South Sudan.

IMC South Sudan is implementing DFID funded GBV prevention and response program in Upper Nile, Jonglei, Western Bar el Ghazal and Unity states. IMC has secured a four-year grant from DFID to implement GBV prevention and response programs in different parts of the country. This grant includes a component of protection program and income generating activities. IMC works to mainstream protection and GBV in their other programming to ensure safe access to quality services for vulnerable people

The primary function of the GBV Program Coordinator is to provide technical and managerial guidance for successful implementation of GBV prevention and response activities of International Medical Corps in south sudan.

 

Job Purpose :

The primary function of the GBV Program Coordinator is to provide technical and managerial guidance for successful implementation of GBV prevention and response activities of International Medical Corps in South Sudan.

 

Main Responsibilities :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation. The tasks listed are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Programme Planning :

  • Work closely with the GBV Program managers, and senior management team when necessary, to ensure achievement of the GBV program goals ;
  • Provide strategic direction and undertake analysis of GBV trends, gaps in services, and IMC’s capacities to better address needs in the assigned field location ;
  • Contribute to program design and oversee the preparation of concept notes and proposals ;
  • Contribute to ongoing programmatic assessments and ensure continuous improvement within the GBV programme.

Program Implementation and Capacity Development :

  • Lead the program start-up processes and discussions with local implementing partners, government authorities and other key stakeholders ;
  • Provide ongoing technical support and capacity building to GBV staff during programme implementation ;
  • Provide technical support to strengthen and standardize programming as per global standards, including psychosocial support activities and case management systems, outreach and prevention strategies, and awareness-raising efforts ;
  • Organize and lead GBV technical trainings as needed for national staff ;
  • Provide guidance on information-sharing and data management systems at field level ;
  • Support the compilation of reports and assessments with accurate data ;
  • Raise and track procurement requests and plan the delivery and distribution of items at field level ;
  • Plan and monitor budget for the assigned field site.

Coordination :

  • Participate and contribute to the GBV working group and protection working group ;
  • Do advocacy for gaps and needs in the field ;
  • Coordinate with national and international NGOs, UN agencies and other stakeholders to ensure holistic support for survivors, including participation in strengthening GBV SOPs and referral pathways ;
  • Advocate for adherence to SOPs and on behalf of program teams as needed ;
  • Ensure maximum visibility of IMC amongst the UN and NGO community.

Human Resources Management :

  • Assist in recruitment and support of qualified program staff as needed ;
  • Promote support strategies for staff, including principles of self-care ;
  • Fill in for program managers as needed during any periods of extended absence, including support and supervision of program teams.

Security :

  • Comply with security protocols and policies ;
  • Consider security implications of all program activities, carefully reviewing new initiatives with program teams ;
  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed ;
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct.

Qualification :

  • Advanced degree in Social Work, Sociology, Gender, Public Health, International ;
  • Development or other relevant field of study or equivalent experience.

 

Experience :

  • At least 5 years experience in GBV program design and implementation, including at least one year of international, humanitarian experience ;
  • Supervisory experience ;
  • Relevant regional experience strongly preferred ;
  • Familiarity with standards and guidelines for GBV programming and coordination as well as guidance on protection from SEA ;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to work and make decisions independently.
