POSITION SUMMARY
HIAS is recruiting a Protection Coordinator responsible for overseeing and coordinating protection activities under the GFFO project. The Protection Coordinator will lead a team of protection officers in the Protection and Gender based violence thematic areas. This role will also work in collaboration with the gender-based violence (GBV), Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Coordinators to integrate the initiatives and implement protection activities. This position will report to the Program Director. The Manager will work closely with Program Manager, Eastern Chad, the Assistant Director for Protection. This position will be in Farchana, Chad with frequent travel to HIAS Chad field offices and insecure operating environments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and oversee implementation of protection strategies that address GBV and child protection issues, ensuring they are context-specific and culturally sensitive.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of protection interventions and make necessary adjustments to improve program outcomes.
- Collaborate with the MEAL coordinator to develop and implement a robust monitoring and evaluation plan for protection activities based upon indicators and outcomes.
- Identify training needs for staff and partners and develop capacity building plans.
- Organize and conduct training sessions for staff, partners, and community members on GBV and child protection principles and best practices.
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship to field teams to enhance their capacity to respond to protection concerns effectively.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive team environment, promoting professional growth and development.
- Manage partnerships and coordination with various stakeholders, including other partners, donors government agencies, and community organizations, to ensure a cohesive approach to GBV and child protection.
- Advocate for the rights and protection of GBV survivors and vulnerable children at local, national, and international levels.
- Raise awareness through campaigns, workshops, and community engagement activities to promote understanding and support for protection issues.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree in social work, psychology, international development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in protection programming, preferably in emergency or humanitarian settings.
- Strong understanding of protection principles, international standards, and best practices.
- Experience in program management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Proven experience in team management and capacity building.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English and French is a MUST. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
- Ability to work with people from different culture settings.
- Ability to work effectively with teams.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, especially refugees or asylum seekers.
- Knowledge on computers: Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet.
- Performs other duties assigned.
