Contexte :

Currently, we are seeking suitably qualified candidates to fill the Destination Promotion Specialist for the USAID-funded Integrated Management of Cultural Tourism (IMCT) Activity.

The objective of the 4-year activity is to increase tourism revenues and local economic benefits, including increased employment and business opportunities, in the cultural tourism sector at targeted destinations.

The four results of the IMCT activity are :

  1. Consolidation and reinforcement of GOE efforts to improve the enabling regulatory environment for investment in sustainable cultural heritage tourism; consolidated/reinforced ;
  2. Selected cultural heritage sites rehabilitated and financially sustainable ;
  3. Higher-value added tourism products and services developed at target destinations; and
  4. Capacity to promote cultural tourism in target destinations enhanced.

The Destination Promotion Specialist will lead activities under result 4 designed to positively impact cultural tourism assets through interventions that result improved awareness of the products and destinations in IMCT target sites in Historic Cairo and Luxor. The Destination Promotion Specialist will report to the IMCT Chief of Party and collaborate with project technical specialist across all IMCT components. S/he will support building project collaborative relationship with key GoE ministries and local authorities and will contribute to coordination with key tourism partners in the private sector (travel agencies and tour operators) and civil society.

Specific Duties :

  • Provide leadership, technical oversight and support implementation of marketing/market access interventions for Historic Cairo and Luxor destinations for cultural tourism planning and tourism products ;

  • In collaboration with IMCT partners and stakeholders design, develop and support implementation of destination marketing strategies for project sites in Historic Cairo and Luxor ;

  • Support expansion increased community engagement and impact of visitor spending through collaborative planning efforts by identifying and creating partnerships that support Historic Cairo and Luxor cultural travel industry suppliers and potential suppliers ;

  • Assist with Historic Cairo and Luxor brand development and marketing ;

  • Identify and aid target sites and event producers and coordinate IMCT marketing efforts with public and private sector stakeholders ;

  • Provide technical input and collaborate on destination promotion and marketing engagement the private sector (MSME) related IMCT activities ;

  • Support on development of marketing and promotion components of destination management plans ;

  • Other duties as agreed upon with IMCT Chief-of-Party (COP).

Minimum Requirements :

  • Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in tourism management/ administration, business administration/management, hospitality and leisure management, Marketing, international development or other degree related to the tourism sector ;

  • 5 – 8 years’ experience in the tourism sector working on destination promotion and marketing, including tour management or tourism marketing as well as cultural tourism product marketing ;

  • 5- 8 years’ experience in a management or supervisory role ;

  • Experience working in cultural heritage tourism in Egypt ;

  • Cross sectoral experience in one or more of the following areas a plus: workforce development, economic participation, gender, hospitality industry, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) desired ;

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with host country government personnel, stakeholders, NGO partners, and international donor agencies ;

  • Strong interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills in Arabic and English ;

  • Successful experience in brand development with engagement of a variety of stakeholders ;

  • Good knowledge of the travel industry in Egypt and in particular Travel Agencies in Cairo ;

  • Good knowledge of latest tourism marketing tools and technologies ;

  • Ability to travel often within Egypt.
