Job Title : Study Assistant

Reports To : Program Officer

Location :  Ndola

 

 

Project Description :

The Family Connections Study Assistant(s) will be responsible for coordination and implementation of the Family Connections intervention and youth advisory board for the Family Connections clustered randomized trial research study. The study will evaluate the impact of Family Connections, a family-based group intervention, on achieving undetectable viral load (VL) among adolescents and young adults (AYA) ages 15-to-21 years who are living with HIV.

The Study Assistant(s) will work closely with the Program Officer & Study Manager and organize the team of Facilitators to support the study when it is implemented in study clinics in Copperbelt. They will work with the Ndola Administrative and Finance Officer on administrative tasks and to reimburse intervention participants for transport. They will also coordinate the youth advisory board (YAB).  This will include identifying YAB members and supporting YAB activities and tasks. The position will initially be based in Ndola, with the option to relocate to Lusaka Province for the second phase of the study.

Job Summaries and Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate staffing and logistics for implementation of a group intervention for adolescents and youth living with HIV as well as their parents/caregivers ;
  • Coordinate the YAB, including identifying adolescents and youth living with HIV to invite to participate in the YAB, communicating with YAB members, coordinating meetings, and recording meeting notes ;
  • Support the Study Team in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including MOH and staff at study clinics and study participants (adolescents and youth living with HIV and their parents/caregivers) ;
  • Facilitate a support group intervention for adolescents and youth living with HIV and their parents/caregivers ;
  • Work with clinic staff to ensure access to a space in the clinic to hold the intervention activities ;
  • Prepare for the intervention sessions, e.g. reviewing the content in the intervention guide and preparing logistics for sessions ;
  • Collect and coordinate data needed by technical staff, for example attendance sheets and session reports ;
  • Review and verify information to ensure compliance and accuracy of study documents, policies, and procedures ;
  • Maintain records, filing systems and data utilizing automated systems for tracking SOPs, training materials, and reports ;
  • Support the Study Team to develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the research study ;
  • Organize meetings and logistics needed for the study ;
  • Assist the Finance and Administration officer with procurement and administrative tasks ;
  • Perform other duties as assigned ;
  • Work with confidential data, which if disclosed, might have significant internal and / or external effect.

Qualifications :

  • Previous experience facilitating peer-led support groups and/or peer-led interventions for adolescents and youth living with HIV ;
  • Previous experience working with clinic-based research studies ;
  • Completion of Secondary Education ;
  • Typically requires 1-2 years of administrative and/or technical support experience ;
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, including both clients and clinic staff ;
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English; preference for candidates also fluent in Bemba and/or Nyanja  ;
  • Very good oral and written communication skills ;
  • Very good organizational and time management skills ;
  • Must be consistently available to facilitate intervention sessions on Saturdays.
