Job description :

ExxonMobil is recruiting new graduate software developers into the Upstream Digital Accelerator (UDA) located Calgary, Canada. As a member of a delivery team in the UDA, you will be part of a team delivering digital pilots for Imperial Oil’s Upstream organization. You will be directly involved in building and supporting digital solutions that include a cloud-based data platform that supports data science, citizen analysts, and other applications, as well as web-based software solutions.   New members of the team will be mentored to grow their skills responsibilities  as they progress through our career development ladder.

The following roles are available within the UDA, and final determination of a successful candidate in the role will depend on the business needs of the team as well as the skills and abilities of the candidate.

Software Developer I is directly involved in developing new and maintaining existing web-based applications in the portfolio under the guidance of senior developers :

  • Learn and employ the technology stack to implement software features in our web-based in house built applications ;
  • Participate in gathering business requirements, code reviews, assist with quality assurance and testing, planning and effort estimation, and implementing risk and security requirements ;
  • Leverage established frameworks for source code management, work item and project tracking, DevOps and enterprise architecture  ;
  • Work collaboratively with software development team ;
  • Be willing to try new technologies, approaches and solutions to solve tough problems.

A Data Specialist / Engineer I is involved in supporting the cloud-based data centric solutions that enable data science, business intelligence analytics and pilot applications that serve key business initiatives.

Key job functions include designing, creating and optimizing datasets and the associated pipelines :

  • Learn and employ the technology stack to ingest, transform and load data, and ensure data quality ;
  • Participate in gathering complex and unique business requirements by defining the business problem and data requirements ;
  • Manage the Azure resources and monitor the reliability and performance of the environment ;
  • Support data access issues and questions from end users accessing the data platform ;
  • Leverage established frameworks for source code management, work item and project tracking, DevOps and enterprise architecture  ;
  • Work collaboratively with data lake support team ;
  • Be willing to try new technologies, approaches and solutions to solve tough problems.

 

Qualifications :

Academic :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer/Electrical/Software Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems  ;
  • Prior energy industry experience is preferred, but not required ;
  • To be considered for employment, your most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application.

Other :

  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of cloud computing and software development practices  ;
  • Scripting and programming knowledge and preferably some experience in languages, tools and frameworks such as JavaScript, C#, React, .NET, SQL, GitHub, Azure DevOps ;
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills ;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to accomplish organizational goals ;
  • Demonstrate sound analytical and problem-solving skills ;
  • Highly motivated individual able to work with minimum supervision ;
  • Capability to rapidly learn and apply new IT technologies  ;
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and short deadlines ;
  • Process/detailed oriented, strong ability to prioritize tasks and organize work ;
  • Innovative, “outside the box” thinker ;
  • Work schedule: Full time position.

Start date : May 2022 preferred, other dates may be available.
