The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 16 countries and at over 5,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already infected. Today, because of the highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. With a growing global staff of over 3,100 — nine of 10 who work in the field—the Foundation’s global mission is to implement prevention, care, and treatment; further advance innovative research; and to execute strategic and targeted global advocacy activities  to bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children, and families worldwide.

Job Summary :

The Associate Network Engineer develops, maintains and supports EGPAF’s entire computing infrastructure located in the United States and Africa.  They assist in the design, installation and support of WAN, LAN and Internet connectivity as well as work to define corporate hardware and software standards. The Associate Network Engineer works closely with the Network Engineer Manager to plan networking and departmental strategies, develop policies and procedures and coordinate the efforts of other IT team members.

Job Responsibilities :

Network design and management :

  • Designs, maintains, administers, and supports the WAN and LAN network infrastructure underlying EGPAF’s business systems. Implements and optimizes physical and virtual security utilizing best practices related to firewalls, patch management, anti-virus/spam solutions and backup/disaster recovery strategies.  Defines standard configurations and installation procedures for all software and hardware including PDAs and peripherals.

Department Administration :

  • Recommends or negotiates the technical aspects of contracts and third-party agreements affecting the network. Manages vendors, compiles and tracks pricing, develops RFPs and evaluates proposals. Manages software maintenance and licensing information to ensure the Foundation is legally compliant.

Project Management :

  • Coordinates network and system implementations, maintenance and upgrades. Manages project plans and provides work and cost estimates as needed. Provides project status reports as needed.

Technical Support :

  • Provides second-level and back-up support to first-level support technician to maintain a superior level of customer service.  Occasionally handles priority first-level support calls including off-hours emergencies.

General :

  • Maintains a positive working relationship with all staff. Provides strong written and verbal communication to domestic and international colleagues. Acquires and develops professional skills that benefit EGPAF and the individual.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or commensurate experience. Masters preferred ;
  • Current relevant technical certifications (prefer MCSE) ;
  • 2-4 years of LAN implementation and support experience ;
  • 2-4 years of LAN, e-mail and file/directory services administration ;
  • 2-4 years of user support experience including PC hardware and software troubleshooting ;
  • Proven ability to self-manage using conventional project management techniques ;
  • Knowledge of IT-related aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley and audit-related policies.

Recent expertise in ten of the following :

  1. Windows (2012 and later) server expertise, Windows 10 client configuration expertise ;
  2. MS Exchange, Outlook and Office (2013 and later) deployment and administration ;
  3. MS SQL server administration ;
  4. IT system management utilities (Ghost, Webtrends, etc) ;
  5. Enterprise database management tool expertise (SQL, Oracle) ;
  6. Business intelligence reporting tools (Business Objects, MS SQL Services Reporting, Power BI, etc) ;
  7. MS IIS administration ;
  8. Intranet and web application development and maintenance ;
  9. Document management and collaborative tools (Sharepoint, Lotus notes, etc) ;
  10. Network security architecture and policies (firewalls, routers, etc) ;
  11. Service as technical lead for complex projects ;
  12. WAN configuration and maintenance skills (VPNs, remote connectivity, etc) ;
  13. PBX/telephony ;
  14. Automated forms routing tools (Sharepoint).
