Description :

The position :

Project Surveyor will be responsible for the day to day surveying activities for the program and reporting directly to the Project Manager.

Role objective :

The Project Surveyor shall perform, the following duties and responsibilities :

  • Check contractor’s levels on site and ensure that implementation is as per design ;
  • Verify the survey data in the alignment drawings, including measurements and calculations conducted at construction sites – highlight erroneous survey data ;
  • Conduct surveys in order to establish legal boundaries for properties ;
  • Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features ;
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain ;
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys ;
  • Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements ;
  • Coordinate findings with the work of engineering, clients, and others concerned with projects ;
  • Adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy ;
  • Establish fixed points for use in engineering drawings and develop topographic maps ;
  • Responsible for the quality control and quality assurance of survey data, Field checks, calibrations and survey results ;
  • Present findings to clients, government agencies, and others ;
  • Develop recommendations to enhance road construction implementation ;
  • Attend technical meetings in Mogadishu as required ;
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Expected output :

  • Create project surveys and alignment drawings in order to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed ;
  • Create and/or update engineering drawings and topographic maps .

 

Project reporting :

Project surveyor consultant will report to project manager and will prepare monthly and weekly reports on survey works.

 

Team management :

This consultant role does not have team management function.

 

Essential experience :

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required..

Work experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable relevant Engineering – Civil experience.

Geographical experience :

  • Minimum of 2 year of experience in Africa (desirable).

Languages :

  •  Fluency in English and Somali are essential.
