Overview of the position:

  • IOM & Federal Government of Somalia’s National Program for the Treatment & Handling of Disengaged Combatants are seeking experienced Social Workers to provide comprehensive support to beneficiaries in our Baidoa center. The position sits within the Federal Government of Somalia’s National Program for the Treatment & Handling of Disengaged Combatants & is co-managed by the South West State Govt. & IOM with dual reporting requirements.

Role objective:

The Social Worker will play a pivotal role in the Baidoa Center through helping the beneficiaries to develop individual plans. Each Social Worker will have an assigned caseload & will be the key worker responsible for overseeing the case management process form entry to exit. This will include coordinating the various services that will constitute the rehabilitation process, linking individuals to families & communities & identifying external service providers in accordance with individual care plans with the goal of reintegrating according to defined exit criteria.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with individual at intake & complete registration process & documentation.
  • Undertake initial needs assessments & document outcomes in case files including identifying personal strengths, weaknesses, risk & protective factors.
  • Develop individual care plans in collaboration with other sectors & service providers in the center which will meet specified standards & timescales this will include creating Personal Education Plans (PEP).
  • Maintain accurate case files including regular updates & progress of individuals against goals & objectives detailed in care plans & use information to prepare reports for the exit board.
  • Provide information regarding the entry & exit procedures & support services available to defectors & their families.
  • Ensure awareness of & compliance with safeguarding policies & practices.
  • Liaise with & make referrals to, other service providers both internally & externally.
  • Coordinate case reviews & case conferences.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams & meetings regarding, education, VET, psycho social well being & health including mental health.
  • Facilitate access to & contact with family including visits & outreach support services.
  • Identify & facilitate linkages to community-based support mechanisms to optimize sustainable reintegration on exit as part of care plans.
  • Identify options for reintegration alternatives including resettlement for individuals who may not wish to return to communities of origin.
  • Provide psycho social support including guidance & basic, culturally appropriate, counselling services including screening & referral to specialist service providers as needed/appropriate.
  • Participate in training, supervision & multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Recommend & contribute to making decisions about the best course of action for a defector in line with individual care plan goals & exit & criteria.

Project reporting:

  • This role reports to the IOM/DRP.

Team management:

  • This role does not have team management responsibility.

Geographical experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Africa (essential).

 

Education:

  • Diploma in relevant field, i.e. Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Teaching, Healthcare & Community Development.

 

Experience:

  • Prior work experience in South West State regions is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience in a related field working with vulnerable youth & adults within the health care, protection, human rights, education or community development/mobilization sector within an NGO, CBO or similar.
  • Proficient in computer MS Office.

 

Languages:

  • Fluent in Somali & working knowledge of English is desirable.
