Health and Nutrition Programme Manager – Chad
About the role: This is a 12 month, newly created role with unaccompanied terms based in Baga-Sola, Lac Region, Chad with a salary of €34,106 – €37,895 and benefits
You will report to the Emergency response Programme Coordinator and will line manage Health and Nutrition Field Animators (2) and work closely with Country Director and other Chad staff as relevant; Head Office Regional Desk; Strategy, Advocacy & Learning (SAL) Advisers; Emergency Directorate advisers.

Your purpose:
The Health and Nutrition PM role is to plan, implement, monitor and report on Health and CMAM activities within Concern’s Emergency Response Programme in the Lac region, Chad. This shall be done in collaboration and close consultation with the Emergency Response Programme Coordinator, Country Director and relevant stakeholders including national, regional and district level health authorities in the Lac Chad region.
You will be responsible for:
- Support the implementation of Concern’s Nutrition project ensuring strict adherence to protocols and programme quality for better results.
- Build the capacity of Health Facilities and Mobile Clinics staff, Community Health Volunteers, and Concern staff through training, mentoring, supervising and regular engagement.
- Support the Emergency Response Programme Coordinator to develop monthly activity work plans in line with the annual work plans and the commitments in the respective donor proposals.
- Ensure a strong monitoring system is in place and that programme data on key nutrition indicators, including programme coverage, community participation, health and nutrition knowledge and practice, is collected, analysed, reviewed and responded to on an ongoing basis. Engage with SAL advisers as necessary on this.
- Adapt and improve the existing programme on an ongoing basis, based on field visit findings, monthly nutrition data from health facilities and discussions with field staff, beneficiaries, Health facility staff and the Emergency Response Programme Coordinator, etc.
- Regularly report on programme outcomes, activities, processes and lessons learned to inform the internal Concern as well as donor and head office reports.
- Support Health and Nutrition Field Animators in planning and clearly outlining the quantities and specifications for all required nutrition materials well in advance and liaising with the logistics department to ensure details and timelines are well understood.
- Ensure effective training and mentoring of Health Facility Staff and community level (Community Health Volunteers) in community health & nutrition programme activities and monitoring, as applicable.
- Ensure sufficient stocks of health and nutrition supplies for both MAM and SAM interventions are in place, liaising with UNICEF, WFP and the Regional Health Delegation as necessary to ensure no stock outs at the health facilities.
- Contribute to the development of project proposals/concept papers for key donors and their budgets (ECHO, Irish Aid, UNICEF, WFP, CERF, CHF).
- Promote actively among staff, communities, and external stakeholders, the crosscutting issues of equality, gender, accountability, protection, DRR, HIV and AIDS, and ensure staff adhere to Concern’s commitments in regard to these.
- Carrying out other related duties as assigned by the Emergency Response Programme Coordinator.
Other Duties
- Participate in country-level strategic planning initiatives and other duties as determined by line management.
- Adhere fully to the commitments and rules of Concern’s Programme Participant Protection Policy and Code of Conduct (P4 and CofC), including the respect of confidentiality.
Your skills and experience will include:
Essential:
- Degree in Nutrition and any other related fields like Public Health and Nursing
- two years’ experience implementing an emergency nutrition programme, particularly CMAM
- Experience supervising diverse staff
- Strong training and capacity building skills. Experience of mentoring and on-the-job training.
- Knowledge/familiarity with key humanitarian and accountability concepts.
- Flexible and positive personality
- Strong planning and implementation capacity
- Confident and capable negotiator, communicator and networker
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
We would also like:
Desirable:
- Experience working in Chad or other fragile contexts
- Knowledge and familiarity with Concern Worldwide HR, Logistics, Transport, Purchasing and IT policies, procedures and standards
- Knowledge/experience of protection issues
- Knowledge of HF/VHF radio systems
- Arabic and Hausa languages would be an advantage
