UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential. Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone. And we never give up.

For every child, a future :

The humanitarian crisis in CAR is among the largest in the world according to the proportion of the population in need of humanitarian assistance. Weakened by years of conflict, CAR is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis with 3.1 million people, or 63% of the population, in need of humanitarian assistance and protection, including 1.9 million people in acute need (Humanitarian Needs Overview Light, CAR, March 2021, OCHA). The ripple effect of the crisis in Ukraine is having a profound impact in CAR and food and fuel shortages and price spike are hampering the humanitarian response and operations.

Despite efforts of government and its partners, the ongoing nutrition information system needs to be strengthened. It appears important to continue working to improve quality of data using the new technologies that have been implementing for 2 years ago and focused on multisector Evaluation system. This strategy is being reinforced programming to accelerate progress toward reduction of stunting and wasting among young children in CAR. This requires better management of information and knowledge management to support efficient programming. Since 2019, UNICEF has been supporting Government and partners to reinforce Nutrition Information System using three pillars: i) Nutrition Surveillance and Early Warning System, ii) Nutrition Surveys- SMART, and iii) The Nutrition in National health Information System (administrative data on CMAM, Growth Monitoring).

UNICEF places a high priority on the availability of recent and reliable information with which to monitor the situation of children and women. Statistically sound and internationally comparable data are essential for developing evidence -based policies and programmes, as well as for monitoring country progress towards national goals and global commitments, including the SDGs. https://unicef.sharepoint.com/sites/CAF/SitePages/About-Us.aspx
