Job Description :

FHI 360 seeks a qualified candidate for the Technical Assistance, Networks and Partnerships Lead for the anticipated FP2030’s East and Southern Africa (ESA) Regional Hub. FP2030 is a global community of partners working together to advance the family planning (FP) movement and promote evidence-based policies and programs based on the principles of voluntarism and informed choice (see www.fp2030.org).The selected host organization for the ESA Regional Hub will collaborate with FP2030 to serve as a collaborative platform that brings together diverse stakeholders from a wide range of sectors and advances the prioritized needs of commitment-making partners and countries in East and Southern Africa.  Availability of position is contingent upon funding and approval by the United Nations Foundation.

Job Summary :

The Technical Assistance, Networks and Partnerships Lead will work alongside the Managing Director and other core staff within the ESA Regional Hub, and will focus on connecting FP2030 country focal points in the region to external technical assistance providers and facilitating peer-to-peer learning and exchange among FP2030 country focal points. Working closely with the Managing Director, the TA, Networks and Partnerships Lead will provide input into workplans for the regional hub. The TA will collaborate with other staff to ensure that FP2030 commitment-making countries have access to technical assistance to support their work in advocacy and accountability, youth and civil society engagement, and high impact practices. The TA will also be responsible for fostering and strengthening partnerships with organizations throughout the region who can contribute technical and financial resources to commitment-making countries. The TA must be committed to advancing universal human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals and to empowering local agendas and stakeholders in the region.

The position will be based at FHI 360’s office in Nairobi, Kenya or remotely in other African countries.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Support the Managing Director to launch the ESA regional hub, including strategic planning and start-up of activities ;
  • Establish and manage a directory/inventory of FP Technical Assistance providers and a system to collect TA needs from commitment-making countries and match them to appropriate resources ;
  • Develop a compendium of exemplary services to foster high-quality TA ;
  • Plan, organize and/or contribute to learning exchanges within the region, including virtual and in-person events, on a range of relevant topics (in coordination with other core Hub staff) ;
  • Foster and support partnerships with organizations in the region that can be leveraged to provide technical and financial assistance to commitment-making countries ;
  • Develop and oversee portions of implementation workplans relevant to technical assistance and partnerships ;
  • Contribute to reports, publications and knowledge products (blogs, briefs, etc).

Applied Knowledge & Skills :

  • Demonstrated ability providing and managing FP technical assistance within the ESA region ;
  • Proven track record of fostering partnerships with FP organizations within the region ;
  • Strong skills in facilitating peer-to-peer learning and exchange, both virtually and in person ;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and analytical skills ;
  • Excellent and demonstrated program/project management skills. Ability to influence and collaborate with others ;
  • Ability to problem solve and implements corrective action as needed.

  • Works on problems of complex scope that require analysis and in-depth evaluation of variable factors ;
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results ;

Supervision Given/Received :

  • Typically reports to an Associate Director or Director ;
  • Helps establish compelling development plans. Assigns responsibility and accountability for tasks/decisions. Monitors process, progress and results. Creates a climate in which people want to do their best.

Profil :

Education :** Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in public health or Related Field; Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience :**

  • Minimum 8 years of providing and managing technical assistance and/or supporting partnerships and/or fostering learning and exchange activities ;
  • Recognized technical skills/expertise in FP ;
  • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas ;
  • Articulate and professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with clients and staff ;
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. professional-level fluency in French and/or Portuguese are highly desirable.

Typical Physical Demands :

  • Typical office environment ;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 5-10 lbs.

Technology to be Used : Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer, calculator, copier, cell phones, PDAs and other hand held devices.

Travel Requirements : 10%-25%

Position Location : Position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya or remotely in other African countries.
