High Impact Practices Lead :

FHI 360 seeks a qualified candidate for the High Impact Practices Lead for the anticipated FP2030’s East and Southern Africa (ESA) Regional Hub. FP2030 is a global community of partners working together to advance the family planning (FP) movement and promote evidence-based policies and programs based on the principles of voluntarism and informed choice (see www.fp2030.org).

The selected host organization for the ESA Regional Hub will collaborate with FP2030 to serve as a collaborative platform that brings together diverse stakeholders from a wide range of sectors and advances the prioritized needs of commitment-making partners and countries in East and Southern Africa.  Availability of position is contingent upon funding and approval by the United Nations Foundation.

Job Summary :

The High Impact Practices (HIPs) Lead will work alongside the Managing Director and other core staff within the ESA Regional Hub, and will focus on promoting evidence, tools, and resources to commitment-making countries related to High Impact Practices in FP. Working closely with the Managing Director, the HIPs Lead will provide input into workplans for the regional hub. The HIPs Lead will collaborate with other staff to ensure that FP2030 commitment-making countries are aware of and have the necessary information and tools to include HIPs in their Costed Implementation Plans (CIPs) and in budget and operational priorities. The HIPs Lead will work closely with other global and regional entities that support HIPs, including USAID, UNFPA, IPPF, and the Implementing Best Practices (IBP) Network at the WHO. The candidate must be committed to advancing universal human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals and to empowering local agendas and stakeholders in the region.

The position will be based at FHI 360’s office in Nairobi, Kenya or remotely in other African countries.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Support the Managing Director to launch the ESA regional hub, including strategic planning and start-up of activities ;
  • Manage consistent open communication with FP2030 country focal points in ESA ;
  • Develop a system to assess knowledge of and needs related to HIPs in commitment-making countries ;
  • Update and disseminate existing FP2030 country-specific HIP-related tools, including analyses, checklists, and scorecards ;
  • Plan learning events (with the TA, Networks and Partnerships Lead) at the country and regional level focused on HIPs ;
  • Plan, organize and/or contribute to learning exchanges within the region, including virtual and in-person events, on a range of relevant topics (in coordination with other core Hub staff) ;
  • Foster and support partnerships with organizations that support HIP implementation, including USAID, UNFPA, IPPF, and the IBP Network at the WHO, to develop learning agendas and to advance implementation knowledge and evidence ;
  • Develop and oversee portions of implementation workplans relevant to HIPs ;
  • Contribute to reports, publications and knowledge products (blogs, briefs, etc.).

Applied Knowledge & Skills :

  • Knowledge of HIPs ;
  • Proven track record of supporting FP program implementation in the region, with a preference for experience implementing HIPs ;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a range of organizations in the region in support of FP program implementation ;
  • Strong skills in facilitating peer-to-peer learning and exchange, both virtually and in person ;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and analytical skills ;
  • Excellent and demonstrated program/project management skills. Ability to influence and collaborate with others ;
  • Ability to problem solve and implements corrective action as needed.

Problem Solving & Impact :

  • Works on problems of complex scope that require analysis and in-depth evaluation of variable factors ;
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results ;
  • Networks with key internal and external personnel ;
  • Decision may cause delays or failure to achieve results that impact departmental goals.

Supervision Given/Received :

  • Typically reports to an Associate Director or Director ;
  • Helps establish compelling development plans. Assigns responsibility and accountability for tasks/decisions. Monitors process, progress and results. Creates a climate in which people want to do their best.

Education :**

Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in public health or Related Field; Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience :**

  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting FP program implementation, including implementation of HIPs ;
  • Recognized technical skills/expertise in FP ;
  • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues in assigned areas ;
  • Articulate and professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with clients and staff ;
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Professional-level fluency in French and/or Portuguese are highly desirable.

Typical Physical Demands :

  • Typical office environment ;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 5-10 lbs.

Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, any other technology.

Travel Requirements : 10%-25%
