Virgin Australia is now embarking on an exciting new chapter in the next stage of our journey. The Manager, Group Finance is responsible for managing the accounting close and the completion of the statutory financial statements for the Virgin Australia group and subsidiaries ensuring compliance to all Australian Accounting Standards.   This role will lead a technical accounting team and will be the knowledge centre for the group in the provision of solutions to meet all technical accounting issues.  This team is responsible for the specialised accounting activities associated with all treasury transactions, maintenance events, lease transactions, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, cash accounting and managing the exposure to balance sheet revaluation risk.  This role is a key team member of the Group Finance leadership team and for the right candidate will have key regular interactions with the CFO, opportunities to work across the group on cross functional projects and be regarded as  successor for the Financial Controller.

 

Key accountabilities :

  • Responsible for the group’s accounting close process including the process improvement required to meet best practice timelines ;
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of the monthly financial accounts for the group ;
  • Oversee the system of financial control over monthly Board and Management Reporting process ;
  • Review of all financial risk, capital management, fixed asset and provision disclosures for the consolidated statutory financial statements and financial statements for subsidiaries ;
  • Support the preparation and review of the VAH statutory reporting requirements, Annual Financial Report, ancillary reports and external results releases and presentations ;
  • Support the preparation accounting position papers and Audit and Risk Committee Papers on key accounting matters for internal stakeholders and external auditors ;
  • Ownership and management of the General Ledger ;
  • Provision of timely and accurate accounting for areas of responsibility ;
  • Development and maintenance of financial control environment that supports the accurate provision of financial information ;
  • Manage the Group exposure to balance sheet revaluation risk ;
  • Promote and deliver a positive change management and continuous improvement culture ;
  • Ensure appropriate systems are in place and operating effectively across the Group Finance Team ;
  • Build and maintain effective relationships within and across the business units & departments ;
  • Provide effective Leadership and Management across business unit ;
  • Work with CFO leadership team to manage structure, team engagement, capability and career development across CFO division.

 

What you need to be successful :

  • Minimum of 10 years’ post qualification experience ;
  • CA / CPA or equivalent qualifications ;
  • The successful candidate will be confident, decisive and will be able to successfully engage with multiple stakeholders across the business ;
  • Management experience in large finance team within an ASX listed entity ;
  • Comprehensive experience in technical accounting areas of judgement and implementation of accounting standards ;
  • Proven ability to work to strict deadlines with adaptability to changing priorities. Strong ability to be agile and move with constant change ;
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and initiative to look for and implement process improvements ;
  • Ability to build effective working relationships, work collaboratively and deliver high quality service, advice and support to meet the needs of diverse work units
