Who we’re looking for :

As our Data Science Practice Lead, you’ll lead a growing team of Data Scientists to unlock value from our data, enable rich data-driven customer experiences, and drive measurement and insights to help Virgin become the most loved airline in Australia.

We’re looking for a deeply skilled Data Science practitioner and thought leader who can help build scalable AI & ML data products which will power a broad range of applications. You’ll design and implement a robust MLOps framework, develop and maintain our feature store, build recommendation systems and other data products to power the next wave of Virgin Australia’s growth.

 

What you’ll do :

  • Lead a growing practice of data scientists, embedded across cross-functional squads and within our Advanced Analytics Centre of Excellence ;
  • Be a crucial part of our customer data transformation, focusing on the development of scalable data science product within our new Databricks platform that make a difference to customer’s experiences  ;
  • Develop a scalable MLOps framework supporting the delivery of data science projects including building, testing, implementation, maintenance, tracking and optimisation of models  ;
  • Foster a team and organizational culture of curiosity and experimentation   ;
  • Promote frameworks and approaches for solving customer experience and commercial opportunities  ;
  • Lead team to greater agility and adoption of best practice data science approaches  ;
  • Maintain a keen focus on data governance, data ethics, security, reliability, resilience, documentation and discoverability of work from your practice.

 

What we’re looking for :

  • 8-10 years of relevant working experience developing and deploying scalable data science products  ;
  • Experience in developing, deploying and maintaining machine learning models in cloud environments (Databricks, GCP or AWS preferred)   ;
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and their applications  ;
  • Proven skills in translating analytics output to actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders ;
  • Evidence of strong commercial and customer orientation   ;
  • Experience influencing the ML and data science strategy and skills of organisations, teams and individuals  ;
  • Experience working collaboratively across distributed teams and demonstrates leadership outside of formal structures  ;
  • Experience turning web, app and transactional customer behavioral data into impactful data science products  ;
  • Familiar with DevOps concepts and tools (e.g., git and containers)  ;
  • Experience in writing high quality Python & SQL code.
