Maintenance Watch Engineer

The Role :

Virgin Australia is one of Australia’s largest operators of fly-in fly-out charter aircraft with our Perth-based team being responsible for the planning and delivery of flying operations of the airline with key functions including Engineering, maintenance, Operations Control, Crew Control, Charter Support and Network Management, primarily within Western Australia.

The objective of the Maintenance Watch Engineer is to provide effective day-to-day management and notification of engineering operational issues that relate to aircraft dispatch. This includes; AOG recovery; defect deferral and rectification; technical advice to Flight Crews/ AMO’s, and notification of aircraft limitations and maintenance significant events to Network Operations and the CAMO.

The position is based at the Perth Head Office and within this role, you will work closely with the Manager, Operational Worthiness.

As a Maintenance Watch Engineer, the position is built around several pillars inclusive of :

• Compliance with VARA Part 42 Exposition, ESP’s and applicable Work Instructions including ‘Management of Defects’ (CAMOE 2.4) ;
• Manage AOG events IAW published Work Instructions ;
• Ensure all defects with an operational or maintenance restriction are technically reviewed and; Entered into the DSR; Flagged in the Movement Manager system; Network Operations are formally notified, and AMO’s are advised of any maintenance requirements for an arriving aircraft ;
• Ensure that critical maintenance messages received from Aircraft Communication and Reporting Systems (ACARS) Including, Airman, and are technically assessed and actioned ;
• Provide technical maintenance information to flight crew requests in flight, via ACARS, SATCOM and VHF, and via phone at unmanned ports ;
• Provide technical aircraft systems trouble-shooting advice to AMO’s ;
• Research and raise requests with OEM’s, approved persons and CASA for Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA’s), PU’s or Special Flight Permits ;
• Provide input and undertake projects to review and improve department processes and procedures and continually improve interaction with stakeholders.

 

About you :

• Hold or have held, an aircraft engineer license in category B1, B2 or equivalent with type ratings and / or credits on current Virgin Australia aircraft types or aircraft of similar complexity ;
• Extensive experience in aircraft maintenance in an operational and/or Maintenance Watch role ;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the aircraft’s structure and systems, including the propulsion system of the aircraft/engine types operated by the airline or of similar aircraft type and complexity ;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills ;
• Advanced Computer and Data Analysis Skills along with proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook ;
• Comprehensive knowledge of CASR Part 42 continuing Airworthiness regulations and standards including Rectification of defect in aircraft before flight (CASR 42.115) and Operation of aircraft without rectification of defect (CASR 42.030 and 42.115) ;
• General knowledge of the role and functions of Operational Control Centre (OCC) departments and sections
