About Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA) :

VARA operates out of Perth Airport and has a fleet of F100 aircraft and A320 aircraft that predominantly conduct charter operations to regional Western Australia. VARA has continued to operate through COVID-19 and beyond to support our major clients in the mining industry and the future is exciting and prosperous.

 

The Role :

The Safety Systems Department at VARA is in an exciting transitional period with a new focus on strengthening leadership capability and creating a great team culture. We’re looking for an emerging leader, someone who is ready to take the next step in their career, who has the right attitude, motivation, commitment, passion and potential.

The objective of the Safety Data Analyst role is to develop and continually improve the systems, processes and interfaces to ensure data integrity, support safety data analysis and reporting systems and provide analysis and recommendations for business requirements to improve safety outcomes.

The role is also responsible for analysing methods and alternative models for presentation of risk and safety data and initiate action to solve problems and improve existing systems. Additionally, this role will help in mapping out systems processes and assist as a subject matter expert capacity to implement system updates and upgrades.

The reporting and systems function sits at the crossroads between all other teams in the business, requiring strong quantitative and technical skills and an innovative mind for problem solving and reporting of data. There is potential to significantly contribute and impact the success of the business through accurate measure of safety metrics and identify value adding insights.

This role helps to ensure that Safety Systems, as well as the broader business, have the tools and support needed to excel in a fast paced and ever-changing environment. Encompassing business systems, training and standards, you will help to provide essential programs, policies, and day of operations support to keep the business moving.

 

Key responsibilities :

  • Proactively design, measure, and continuously improve key risk and safety metrics and reporting capability ;
  • Provide critical information to assist operational departments in risk and safety related matters ;
  • Maintain and continuously improve the data integrity of all reporting sources ;
  • Map internal systems architecture and processes to ensure systems are integrated and highly automated where possible ;
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and quality of existing processes ;
  • Identify and implement new data sources to improve reporting capability ;
  • Contribute to relevant business projects as a subject matter expert ;
  • Research and adopt current best practice regarding data management and analytical techniques.

 

About You :

  • Ability to develop relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders ;
  • Tertiary qualification in Business Management, IT or similar ;
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing datasets and presenting data in a clear and concise format ;
  • Strong technical understanding of Power BI and SQL and other analytical programs ;
  • Excellent problem solving, organisational and critical thinking skills ;
  • Ability to work proactively, autonomously and make good decisions ;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills ;
  • Some understanding of airline or similar logistics operations ;
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
