Description

Amref Health Africa was founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa, providing critical health care to remote communities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The organisation has since grown to become the largest African-based international health development organisation. We are currently implementing more than 140 programs, directly reaching more than 12 million people across 35 African countries. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa has offices in seven country offices in Africa and an additional eleven advocacy and fundraising offices in Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Monaco, Spain, Sweden (covering Nordic countries), United Kingdom and the United States of America. In 2017 we operated on an annual budget of approximately US$ 100 million.

 

Amref Health Africa’s Vision and Mission

Our current corporate strategy dubbed ‘No turning Back: Achieving Lasting Health Change in Africa 2018-2022’ is now in operation. Whereas our Vision of ‘Lasting health change in Africa’ will remain the same; our Mission isTo increase sustainable health access to communities in Africa through solutions in human resources for health, health service delivery, and investments in health.

Our vision and mission are anchored on three pillars namely: (i) Human Resources for Health, (ii) Innovative Health Services and Solutions; and (iii) Investments in Health. These will be supported through four cross-cutting themes: Gender, Research, Policy and Advocacy with a focus on SDGS 2, 3, 6 an d 17.

Amref France, in support of Amref West Africa Office, is seeking for an experienced Business Development Manager for West Africa, in order to contribute developing the portfolio of strong   health programmes and partnerships in the Region.

 

Reporting Line :

  • Reports to:
    • CEO of Amref France with dotted line to Director of Business Development, Amref HQ
  • Coordination and collaboration with:
    • Amref Health Africa West Africa office
    • Amref France Programme Unit
    • Other Amref Health Africa Country Offices in Africa, Europe and North America
    • HQ Business Development (BD) Unit
    • Amref Director for Regional and Field Offices

 

Key responsibilities:

Technical leadership and management

  • Coordinating activities of country/West Africa regional level BD committee
  • Initiating all aspects of proposal development for Amref West Africa by leading proposal teams comprised of staff from West Africa office and at times HQ/other E/NA offices including planning during positioning phase, programmes and strategy design, and proposal writing; this includes establishing and enforcing timelines, designating roles and responsibilities, identifying and negotiating with partner organizations, coordinating inputs, and overseeing proposal submission
  • Developing/adopting BD processes and tools for Senegal/West Africa region
  • As a member of the Africa Core business development team contribute to the continuous improvement of Amref’s systems for identifying, tracking, and pursuing new business opportunities, developing proposals and budgets, and managing institutional knowledge

Identifying and tracking opportunities

  • Regular checking opportunities using available search engines for West Africa and other Amref countries especially  in the Francophone market
  • Donor intelligence gathering
  • Nurturing and managing relationship with donors including supporting the WA team in managing donors in Senegal and the West Africa
  • Identify and negotiate potential partnerships
  • Identify and negotiate potential support and co-funding opportunities from E/NA offices for West Africa

 

Proposal development

  • Serving as lead writer in development of larger, highly competitive proposals as well as facilitating strategy discussions, drafting the narrative (including executive summary, technical approach, staffing and management, monitoring and evaluation, and organizational capabilities) and incorporating reviewer feedback
  • Conducting reviews of and revising and editing proposals written by country and technical teams
  • Provide technical assistance to the Amref West Africa  programmes as needed for proposal development/capacity building
  • Participate in proposal development for other Amref countries based on opportunities in France
  • Coordinating efforts between Amref and partner organizations on specific proposals

Capacity development

  • Expanding the capabilities of Amref staff to participate in technical and cost proposals and other business development efforts through mentoring and direct training

Relation to other Amref offices

  • Lead coordination of other E/NA offices support to Amref West Africa in terms of business development
  • Liaising with Amref Country staff regarding upcoming proposal opportunities and other business development needs
  • Work closely with the Business Development team at HQ

Collaborating with senior management within Amref Countries to identify and strategize on new business opportunities

Expériences / Formation du candidat

  • Relevant Master’s degree (MBA, MPA, MPH, etc.) or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of demonstrated business development experience within the international development sector (international health) with a variety of donors including but not limited to AFD, EU, UNITAID, and GFATM.
  • Demonstrated successful experience writing proposals
  • Advanced understanding of proposal compliance requirements within the international development sector for priority donors such as UNITAID, GFATM, WAHO, AFD and EU
  • Knowledge of West African context

Salaire / Indemnité

En fonction du profil et de l’expérience du candidat, dans le cadre des salaires d’usage

Base de 12 RTT annuelles
Mutuelle prise en charge à 50% par l’AMREF France.
Prise en charge de 50% de l’abonnement transport en commun.
