African Parks Network (APN), www.africanparks.org, is an international non-profit organisation that assumes full responsibility for the direct management of protected areas in long-term partnerships with governments and local communities. APN applies business management principles and combines revenues from the development of these protected areas with those of private donors. Its aim is to achieve long-term ecological, financial and social sustainability of each protected area in order to contribute to the economic development and poverty reduction of the countries and regions concerned. Currently, APN manages 22 protected areas in 12 countries – Benin, Congo-Brazzaville, Malawi, Mozambique, CAR, DRC, Rwanda, Chad, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Soudan.
Primary Purpose
As part of its operations in Chad, African Parks operates a fleet of aircraft made up of Cessna 182, Cessna 206 and Savannah ultra-light aircraft. These aircraft operate in the 4 parks managed by African Parks in Chad. African Parks have a main maintenance base established in N’Djamena, Chad to maintain and service these aircraft.
AP is aiming to ensure the safe, efficient and maximum use of existing human and material resources in Chad in order to provide effective, safe and compliant aerial support to the parks. The Chad Aircraft Maintenance Engineer / Aircraft Maintenance Lead will be responsible for the management, maintenance, coordination and support of these aircraft in Chad
Key aspects of the role:
In the context of the activities of his function, the Aviation Engineer must:
- To assist in the administration, management, and maintenance of the African Parks fleet of Aircraft and African Parks Maintenance Facility in accordance with the Chadian Civil Aviation, SACAA Regulations, and the African Parks (MOP) Manual of Procedure as amended.
- Operate, maintain and repair in a safe and correct manner in accordance with MOP, QC, SMS, and AMO SOP’s (e.g. Parts Control, Maintenance & Recording, etc,) good standard practices and including organisational policies and procedures.
- Report any unsafe airworthiness matters to the responsible AMO and Management immediately.
- Ensure the use of documentation from which you plan and do maintenance is the latest version. Advise the AMO and Management of corrections & improvements.
- Plan scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in consultation with the Chief Pilot, Park Management Units and maintenance support suppliers.
- Respond to AOG matters affecting aircraft allocated to you as your responsibility, and report to the AMO and Management on your action plan.
- Ensure that all maintenance is recorded (correct and complete) through aircraft maintenance and status tracking program for traceability in a timeous manner and within guidelines stipulated.
- Repair and record in the CRMA defects (snags) reported to or by the operator, and report to the AMO and Management on a monthly basis on unclosed defects.
- Ensure the life-limited parts, according to manufacturers’ recommendations, are captured correctly in the status report. Advise technical records on necessary changes to status.
- Trend monitor any reoccurrences of airworthy matters and advise the AMO and Management accordingly.
- Ensure your personal file is up to date with your latest amendments at your base and with the main base.
- Keep your professional AME license current.
- Evaluate SB’s, AD’s and all other requirements issued by the manufacturer or the Authorities ensuring continuing airworthiness and reporting your recommendations to the Chadian Team and AMO and Management.
- Ensure that all AMO tools and equipment are accounted for as per register and are maintained for serviceability. Complete an inventory check every 6 months to confirm status.
Required qualifications, competencies and experience:
- ICAO / EASA AME license, with C172, C182, C206 fixed-wing rating/experience.
- Lycoming series experience and approvals.(as applicable to APN aircraft types)
- Continental series experience and approvals.(as applicable to APN aircraft types)
- 5-10 years of operational aviation maintenance experience is required.
- A thorough understanding of aircraft maintenance record keeping and reporting – both routinely and on tasks.
- A thorough understanding of AMO management
- A professional commitment to the safety and quality of aircraft and maintenance facilities.
- Strong computer literacy – Microsoft Office 365, including a good understanding of aviation-based IT software – maintenance planning, manuals, component tracking.
- Be willing to work flexible hours and on weekends from time to time.
- Good work ethics and the ability to self-manage while also working effectively within teams
- French speaking
The successful incumbent shall be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and safety and shall report to the Aviation Manager – AP Chad
