BACKGROUND:

African Parks is a non-profit organisation that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. African Parks currently manage 22 national parks and protected areas covering over 20 million hectares in 12 countries: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Sudan.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Conservation Technology Responsible is responsible for Develop and effectively manage all aspects of conservation technology for the Greater Zakouma Ecosystem (Zakouma National Park and Siniaka Minia National Park), including, but not limited to; VHF radio, IT infrastructure, Satellite comms, asset tracking.

Mission: Maintenance and development of communication technology and management of tech equipment.

His daily duties consist of but are not limited to;

Main responsibilities:

Maintenance, repair and installation of following technology:

  • VHF radio network
  • Local IT infrastructure (Unifi and Cisco Meraki), VSAT set-up
  •  Park communication backbone (Ubiquiti)
  • Garmin satellite communication
  • LoRa network
  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, software, networks, printers and scanners:
  • Server 2016 / 2019, full support function.
  • IT support on Laptops, Desktops, Servers, Email, Domain controller server.
  • Support on Office 365, Teams, SharePoint
  • Solar power solutions
  • EarthRanger and esri software

COMPETENCIES, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in IT, computer networks and systems maintenance or relevant field
  • Level of higher technician or engineer in the field;
  • Previous professional experience as a Conservation Technology Responsible is required
  • Experience in computer and communication networks
  • Demonstrated team player with effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in both English and French will be an advantage;
  • Strong capacity to manage time and competing priorities;
  • Strong initiative, perseverance, and resilience

SUCCES LOOK LIKE:

  •  A solid communications structure operating throughout the GZE.
  •  Successful monitoring of all assets
