Background
The Finance and Reporting Manager is responsible for the efficient and compliant execution of the park’s grant portfolio, the preparation of high-quality reports for internal and external purposes, and both the identification and effective dissemination of the park’s funding needs. This is a key position in the Park Management Unit, linking the park strategy to the operational reality of park management with donors, partners and African Parks Network headquarters teams, including the fundraising team. This position requires a close coordination and collaboration role with the Park Director, the Financial Controller and other department heads responsible for the implementation of park projects, and a thorough knowledge of African Parks Standard Operating Procedures.
Main duties and responsibilities
– Oversee the park’s grant portfolio, ensuring effective and compliant implementation of the respective projects. This includes working closely with the Financial Controller to ensure proper allocation of donor funds and monitoring of the pace of expenditure, coordinating grant management plans and informing department heads of key deliverables, providing required visibility to partners and monitoring risks related to the implementation of grant project components;
– Represent the park at bi-monthly funding monitoring meetings in close cooperation with APN’s resource mobilisation and finance teams on grant awards, key updates and risks;
– Coordinate and collate park reports, both for internal and external purposes. This includes ensuring that AP Reporter data is accurate and up to date, that park information is correct on the SIMBA platform, that the reporting schedule is adhered to, that monthly and annual reports, operational analytical reports are well compiled and transmitted to the various donors in real time and with high quality that enhances the reputation of African Parks, in addition to developing general park fact sheets for external purposes;
– Understand, track and map the park’s funding needs and write clear documents that explain why the park needs funding for specific activities to enable effective fundraising.
– Co-write, with the funding team, the park’s grant proposals and ensure that they are closely linked to the park’s business plan and monitoring programme.

– Coordinate or collate park level surveys, case studies; collect data and analysis to inform impact assessments for donors and partners.
– Liaise with the African Parks Assurance Department to support not only internal performance improvement cycles, but also to support the Compliance Officer and the Legal and Warranty Officer;
– Contribute to the drafting of operational documents such as business plans and special project descriptions;
– Organise capacity building sessions
– In liaison with the Park Director, the regional team and the NPA finance, communications and tourism teams, support the park’s external relations management;
– Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills, competencies and experience required for the position
– Relevant university degree (Masters or postgraduate), in social sciences, international development, conservation, monitoring and evaluation, project management or other relevant field.
– Minimum experience required: 5-10 years of experience at senior levels in programme management, monitoring and evaluation, coordination, resource mobilisation, leadership and management.
– Proven experience in public funding and/or grant management, donor account management, knowledge of funding mechanisms and donor compliance rules and regulations.
– Excellent project management skills with experience in managing and supervising administrative projects.
– Bilingual; Good writer and communicator in French and English.
– Ability to self-manage, work independently and take initiative.
– Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail.

What success looks like in 2 years’ time?
A fully functioning Protected Area at logistical and technical level with:
- necessary infrastructures in place or being created/well maintained,
- all effective technical Departments are strongly supported in terms of logistic,
- terrestrial and aerial operations in ENCR are rationalized, efficient and effective.
