BACKGROUND
The African Development Bank is a regional multilateral development finance institution established in 1963 with a mandate to further economic development and social progress of African countries, individually and collectively. It cooperates with a large network of international development partners and has a very good standing with the capital markets.
The African Economic Outlooks (AEOs) are flagship reports analysing recent economic situation and medium-term prospects at the national, regional and continental levels. For the 2019 AEOs, the Macroeconomics Policy, Forecasting and Research Department (ECMR) seeks to engage the services of an Editing Firm.
SCOPE OF WORK
Under the overall guidance of the ECMR Director and the immediate supervision of the Task Manager, the Consultant will be required to edit and proof-read the English versions of the AEO reports. Specifically, the Editor will:
- Contribute to establishing the editorial policy and practices for language usage;
- Work with the Task team to ensure that the AEO reports (main and regional reports) meet high quality standards in terms of font style and size, language usage and flow, presentation, and readability, etc;
- Propose infographics where necessary;
- Assist in harmonizing the Chapters and revising selected chapters, sections, and text boxes of the English Report; sharpening the English language where necessary to ensure clarity.
- Crosscheck data in the main text against those given in tables and figures;
- Carry out any other task entrusted to him/her by the Task Manager, in the capacity of editor and reviser.
- Assist in any other way to ensure successful preparation for publication of the reports.
The AEO reports will be produced in English, French and Portuguese. And the Consultant will be responsible for translation of the edited English version into French and Portuguese.
Finally, it is important to note that the Consultant will be required to follow the Bank’s
Corporate Identity Guide (which will be provided). The Consultant may also be requested to:
- Assist the Communication team that will lead the design of cover pages.
- Propose presentations of the text, graphs, boxes and photographs, including the selection of characters and combinations of colors (background and borders). The Bank will deliver photographs.
DELIVERABLES
The editor will deliver print-ready files in high resolution PDF of the Main and Regional Outlooks in 3 languages (English, French and Portuguese), with Open Files. Optionally, the documents could be submitted to the printer in WORD and EXCEL formats of MS OFFICE for Windows and/or in Adobe Creative Cloud 2017, Page Maker or Quark Xpress 2016 formats.
DURATION AND LOCATION OF ASSIGNMENT
The estimated duration of services is 2 months (with possibility of extension) and the estimated starting date is 15 November 2018.
The Consultant need not to be based at the Bank’s Headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
ECMR invites Consulting Firms or associations of Consulting Firms to indicate their interest in providing the above-described services. Interested eligible Consulting Firms shall provide information on their qualifications and experience demonstrating their ability to provide the services (documentation, references for similar services, experience in comparable assignments, CV and availability of qualified staff, etc.).
The eligibility criteria, the establishment of a short list and the selection procedures shall be in conformity with the Bank’s procedures for the acquisition of consulting services funded by the administrative or capital expenditure budget. Please, note that interest expressed by a Consulting Firm does not imply any obligation on the part of the Bank to include it in the shortlist.
