WFP recognizes that gender equality and women’s empowerment are key to fulfilling its mandate of ending global hunger and saving lives during humanitarian crises. The lack of gender equality and women’s empowerment exacerbate and reinforce the underlying cause and effects of food and nutrition insecurity. The WFP Gender Policy (2015-2020) provides overall direction and guidance for integrating gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) in all WFP work to ensure that diverse food security and nutrition need of women, me, boys and girls are addressed.

WFP in Mozambique CO is proud to be among the first countries to embrace Gender Transformation Program (GTP) and the first one in Southern Africa to complete the GTP in December 2018. The GTP is key to WFP delivering on this commitment and to successful implementation of the Integrated Road Map and the Country Strategic Plan. Grounded in leadership and accountability, gender-transformative programming and organisational change, the GTP supports and strengthens WFP Country Offices to deliver gender equality outcomes in food security and nutrition.

 

Job purpose :

In order to ensure the legacy of the GTP initiative and build on ongoing commitments to strengthen the mainstreaming of gender and incorporating gender transformative activities in the COs programming, WFP is seeking to hire a National Gender Associate. The Gender Associate is expected to support the COs gender actions generally as well as providing ongoing technical support to a number of new gender transformative development programmes, namely for nutrition and school feeding.

Standard minimum qualifications :

Education : Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.
Language : Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

Key accountabilities (not all-inclusive) :

  • Contribute to the development of programme activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with gender policies and guidance
  • Undertake gender analysis of food and cash assistance programmes (School Feeding, Post-harvest Loss, nutrition, FFA) ;
  • Support the capacity building of WFP and partner staff by developing training materials, designing and overseeing the delivery of gender training activities ;
  • Develop and coordinate gender data gathering and analysis in coordination with M&E staff ;
  • Support the Reporting Unit in ensuring reports and funding proposals include relevant gender information ;
  • Produce operational research and analytical products of relevance to gender ;
  • Liaise with internal and external counterparts to ensure effective collaboration in the area of gender ;
  • Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships in the area of gender ;
  • Support implementation of the Gender Action Plan.

Other specific job requirements :

  • Support all the gender-related aspects of the implementation of a five-year school feeding programme in five districts in Tete (Cahora Bassa, Changara, Doa, Marara and Mutarara), including ;
  • Gender Analysis and Gender Baseline in consultation with relevant stakeholders ;
  • Deliver trainings local leaders and community members on gender equality issues ;
  • Capacity building f MINEDH’s district and provincial structures to mainstream gender aspects of a school feeding programme ;
  • Work with local farmer’s associations, especially those involving women, to enhance quality and production ;
  • Plan, prepare and distribute dignity kits to 6th and 7th grade girls ;
  • Cordinate with partners on the implementation of gender programmes ;
  • Support the Gender Transformation and SBCC components of a three-year nutrition programme with the core aim to prevent stunting in the district of Chemba in Sofala ;
  • Other activities as required by supervisor

Desired experiences for entry into the role :

  • Has participated in implementing technical programs (i.e. nutrition, etc.) ;
  • Has implemented programmes with increased level of responsibility ;
  • Has provided input to policy discussions.
